I thought meat can't be beat. Veggies and meat go together like peas in a pod of peanut butter and jelly or chocolate and peanut butter.

I was a vegetarian for 11 years, and then, I watched a movie called "Earthlings" (you can see the preview on google videos).

After this, I realized that I could no longer call myself a compassionate person and still consume dairy and eggs. I never used to purchase milk or eggs, even as a vegetarian, but I would go to taco bell and order a burrito with sour cream, or buy a box of chips made with powdered milk.

I have stopped this, now. At first, I thought it would be limiting, but you would be surprised how many foods ARE vegan, such as cheerios!

Not only do I feel better for the choices I have made, but I have felt healthier, too, and am clearly in the best physical shape of my life. My hair and skin even look healthier!

It isn' t easy, but, sometimes the right thing isn't the easy thing. I hear people all the time make comments such as "we are at the top of the food chain, so we are supposed to eat meet" or "vegans are pale and weak because they are unhealthy". I know these people are just speaking from ignorance, but it can be frustrating. But, it just makes me that much more determined to do what is right.

I think if most people would take the time to do the research on their own, they would give up meat, too. I tell people all the time, don't take my word for it, type "factory farming" into your favorite search engine, and you decide what is right.

For some people it's a way of being an activist and standing up for something silently through choosing what to avoid when it comes to animal products. Sure some vegans get in your face about it, but I see it as a stance against many things, that don't necessarily have to be discussed.
Others could probably make this point clearer, but if we took the food(think grains, soy, etc.) that we use to keep animals that are massed produced like some kind of popular toy alive, and shared the organic food around, we could conquer hunger. In factory farming, animals, whether for their meat or products are practically kept alive on machines and chemicals for the sake of creating more economical meat. Animals are cramped, forced to produce both mass amounts of products and other baby animals for the sake of extra money in someone's pocket. Harsh conditions like this effect the animals, the environment, and ultimately all of us is a negative way. Although I don't roam the streets, adorned in 'meat is murder' t-shirts, shouting about how much I love being vegan, I feel I can still stand up for what I believe in, as every dollar I spend buying soymilk or tofu, is one that perhaps takes away from the major farming industries. It's a personal decision, it's your business what you do or do not choose to ingest.

Just like peanut butter and jelly? That's vegan! If you read about how meat gets to the table, empathy for the suffering endured by animals might give you pause before you "enjoy" it's flavor.

I believe that most people go 'Vegan' (and vegitarian) on Priciple. They generally are the Anti-Animal Cruelty crowd or Humian Treatment of Animals of all kinds. Some of them believe that chicken, cattle, and meat producing farms should be closed and disbanded.

A lessor amount do it for health.

I know several people that are Vegan (eating Zero foods with any kind of animal in them) but they still drink Soda, and Sugar loaded Fruit Punch drinks. They all will eat a bag of chip, cookies, and other junk foods. I see them are buying food products containing High Frucose Corn Syrups and Partially-Fully Hydrogenated Oils.... these are clearly not healthy food choices. Thus, they are Vegan/Vegitarian based on Principles of Animal Crulity Issues.

lf you really care about your health, you'll realize that veggies are better for the body than meat. l'm not a 100 % vegetarian but l do eat veggies and fish more often now than meat. They are good sources of fiber to digest food better. They prevent cancer, too. You dont become obese by eating veggies,,,so might as well try it now.

People believe that a vegetarian diet is more healthful or they are against the killing of food animals. I am Buddhist and I should follow a vegetarian diet, but like most other Buddhists, I eat meat. Meat, and especially the fat satisfies your hunger. I don't eat lots and you should try to limit your intake of both red meat (beef) and fats....but I agree with you that meat makes the meal.

When I chose a vegan lifestyle it was because I started thinking about where my food came from. These days, so many animals are in a "factory farm" environment so they have to be fed drugs to keep them from getting sick, or other drugs to make them grow fast, etc. Likewise vegetables ... I started eating only organic vegetables because of not wanting to eat pesticides and so forth.

if you look at the way these animals are kept. the horrendous conditions of some slaughterhouses you might steer away from eating meat. Go to www.peta.com to see some of these videos. and by the way... not eating meat is vegatarian. no animal by products is vegan

its healthy. low fat. easy to lose weight on. after a while you dont think about meat anymore. i havent had a hamburger in over a year, although i do get serious cravings for the fries every now and then. mcdonalds fries arent healthy but they taste oh so good! i was a vegitarian for 14 years. once you get used to it, its really easy.

Some people become veguns because they do not like cruelty to animals.
