I wish I knew...
My personal theory is that they somehow feel threatened by the veggie'/vegan conversations and that we somehow see ourselves superior to them - hence they feel the need to protect themselves by belitteling the veggies.

I personally do think that there is no justification for eating meat, but I would never critisise someone for eating it. I think the only way someone can ever truely change their mind, be that about choice of diet or political beliefs or anything else, the change has to come from the inside rather than from outside pressure. If someone wants to ask me stuff about how to "quit" meat or how to cook nice veggie meals I'm more than happy to discuss it, but I never preach..

So I think we should just ignore all the saddo meat-pushers, it's not like we're gatecrashing their conversations about how to best grill steaks or something....

It's a bit of both, the amount of times I have also seen veggies attacking meat eaters in unbelievable. In the end, everyone has a right to eat meat or not, and no one should judge anyone because of that. If god meant us to be veggies then why make animals from meat? And why make it so tasty? We all have a free choice, and no one is right or wrong.

I think, as I've already seen on here, the reason is because a lot of vegans seem to bring God, morals, and arrogance into their preaching. (Of course, not all vegans are like this, as not all meat-eaters attack vegans.) I don't think it's right to judge someone- to call them "killers" because they prefer to eat meat. You know damn well that if they didn't have any other choice, they would eat meat if they had to in order to survive. If they didn't, they would be called a martyr. And if meat-eaters were thrown into a place that didn't have animal life (hypothetical, of course) they would survive on just plant-life. It comes down to the fact that humans will adjust to their environments in order to survive.

To each, his own, but there are a few things that baffle me. From age 12 months to 24 months certain proteins and fats that come only from cow's milk are essential in development of brain cells. Most pediatricians would not recommend this diet for toddlers, so what supplements are used in this case? Why is it better to use supplements than the natural proteins? Decades ago, before they had supplements, how did a vegan lifestyle prosper and remain healthy?

I guess there are 2 reasons why people choose not to eat meat. One, of course, is for health. The other is for animal rights. I find the people who choose the latter reason are the ones who tend to preach to meat-eaters as if they are evil in some way. It is almost like a religion to them, as if they are recruiting.

It's the usualy thing - lack of understanding. I've been vegetarian (including no fish) for about 15 years now and have heard all kinds of rubbish about veggies. I'm a non preachy veggie and I'm also suprised for some of the reasons others are veggie. When asked I say 'environment and health' are the two reasons I've veggie. Environment because of the amount of resources it takes to make meat and also the huge amount of wastage that goes on. Health because it reduces the amount of salt and fat I eat and also reduces the chance of getting food poisoning or similair. I grew up on a farm so the 'cute animals' aspect has no effect on me - some veggies arnt really aware of what goes on on most farms and how animal rights have lead to more suffering in some cases. And yes I eat 'fake meat' because I like the taste.

Oh and for those who said a vegetarian diet is hard to balance? What a complete load of rubbish. What X factor arnt I getting if I don't eat meat? Protein - nope - I still get too much of that. Iron - nope - get enough of that without any real care.

I don't understand it either. It's not hurting them that we don't eat meat!!! It doesn't impact them in any way! It's not like other "lifestyle choices" that might offend people for religious or political reasons. Even if someone doesn't care AT ALL about any of this issues vegetarians care about, it should be morally neutral to them, at the very worst.

I think being a vegetarian or vegan gets some people in a bit of a bother because they feel like just by existing we are judging them. When I say "I'm a vegetarian" to someone who isn't, they hear "I disagree with something you do".

It bothers some people more than other though- I sometimes wonder who all these anti-vegetarian people are really trying to convince. At the end of the day, even if they absolutely do not care about the issues we care about, it still doesn't affect them in the slightest.

Off the top of my head, I'd have to guess that it's because they have mad cow disease...??

Just kidding... Seriously, though, I know what you mean. It's just uncalled for. If you are so violently opposed to a vegetarian lifestyle, why click on a folder titled "Vegetarian and Vegan" if not to merely be argumentive. The real problem is that most people are egocentric and believe their way to be the only right way. They figure since meat hasn't killed them (yet) it must be the only way to live. They feel like if they can change one of us, they must be justified in what they do... My husband eats meat and he is constantly tormenting the rest of us... He always says he "hopes it's just a phase, and that we'll "come around" eventually..." He just doesn't get it. Most people don't...

Thought so... you're just a newbie. Get used to it. If you think this is bad, go to society and culture and check all the racists. Or religion and spirituality and watch the fun between the theists and atheists. That's a real hoot. Relax and enjoy the free speech. It's not everywhere you can get this sort of entertainment. And, btw, it IS only entertainment... not to be taken so seriously.

There are plenty of people, like you, who have found a healthier way of life. Trying to convince the carnivores of your ways is going to be fruitless. When they are dying in their 50s and we are going strong in our 80s, they might realize a thing or two, but by then, it will be too late. Have you checked out Dr. John McDougall's site: http://www.drmcdougall.com ? It's very informative. He's been advocating veganism for more than two decades. I should have listened to him 15 years ago. Maybe I could have avoided the diabetes, depression, and fibromyalgia. I'm hard-headed, though and had to learn the hard way.

Ooooh.... foxhunter is in for a rude awakening. Maybe the attack will be sudden and painless. Or maybe it will be long, painful, and miserable like my mother's.

I'm a meat-eater. But I see no need whatsoever to attack vegans, vegetarians and their so-called "unnatural" and "weird" lifestyle.

Leave them alone. To each his own. It's a free world. Or is it not?

Those who attack vegetarianism without provocation are just showing that they would like to impose their own "unnatural" lifestyle on others. Is that fair?

Some people just enjoy being a pain in the butt! I think the medical term is manic-depressive. Or is that obsessive-compulsive? Whatever. They sound like they have a screw loose somewhere in their heads.

Just ignore them, and they'll slink back into the jungle where they came from.

It's funny to me that I read other people's comments and they all say that it's the vegetarians that make them want to attack. It's the vegetarians who are bad, it's the vegetarians who bring god and country to the debate. It's the vegetarians who are at fault. If you answer a question listed in the vegetarian and vegan section, why are you surprised that it's pro vegetarian?

Also, salad does take a lot of water, but a moderate sized slaughterhouse uses the same amount of water as a city of 100,000 people. That' not counting how much water is used in feedlots and whatever else.

This most personal of choices, ie:what should I put into my own body to keep myself alive?, always kicks up a defensive storm of protest.

There is a presumption on both sides that the "others" think "we" are wrong and misguided.
Nobody likes to be called wrong even if it's only a presumed insult.
Then they get all defensive and turn a bit nasty.
The vast majority of people don't give a monkey's what other people eat.
