Is he having me on?

2006-10-04 02:18:25 · 24 answers · asked by Anonymous in Health Diseases & Conditions Respiratory Diseases

Can I just point out that I don't force him to drink it, he insists on buying it for himself - I don't even like the stuff.

He's totally right - this is down to artificial sweeteners.

Anything with artificial sweetener will aggravate most asthma sufferers. I only suffer asthma if I drink artificial sweetener. My brother found this out also independently of myself and it's apparently a common effect of saccharine and Aspartame.

My advice is to ensure you fiance avoids all diet drinks or added free drinks. Sugar will not aggravate asthma so 'hi juice' squashes will not lead to the same effect.

The link between aggravated asthma and aspartame has been heavily denied but this goes counter to my experience and the experience of others.

Added note: Just saw the other replies - looks like it's very common indeed. It's aspartame guys - same with some sweets and diet drinks.

Robinsons Lemon Barley Water

2016-12-29 12:24:06 · answer #2 · answered by wessling 3 · 0 0

i dont drink much, so i can't answer that, but i've had 2 or 3 glasses of 14% alcohol red / white and it never aggravated my asthma, which is mild anyway.
What i CAN confirm is that (and no one has ever told me this, i promise/swear) whenever i have lemon juice, or some liquid containing lemon juice (lemonade) then my chest starts up and i have to take my pump! and my asthma is only mild, never had a real attack except for once when it was first diagnosed about 3/4 years back. If i have something like lemon tart it doesnt affect it (probably cause the dosage of lemon juice is small in proportion to the tart). Other things which just very literally multiply the phlegm is cream, i get phlegm onslaughts almost immediately, and start coughing etc. also, my childhood best friend said that milk and dairy are best to avoid when one has asthma (cause i never had it as a child).

Robinsons Barley Water

ms. ruth, your fiance is absolutely telling you the truth. it is emergence that you might learn a little more about the breath taking decease, asthma. lemon barley, like many other scents, drinks, foods and weather, you must know about the smoke factor, this can bring on an attack. it could kill us as well.
ms.ruth, if i eat dill in a soup, ginger, curry, many seasonings, the very smell of a clove cigarette or a cheap cigar, even some perfumes, that's it, the inhaler, is not going to help me breathe. i don't think that your fiance is ever going to be "having you on", if it is about his asthma

He's telling the truth, my asthma is aggravated from any citrus fruit juice, lemon and pineapple especially. Barley really aggravates it as well, I can drink weak orange juice but that is about it I thought it was only me though as my boyfriends asthma isn't effected.

A sort of...as too much barley itself is bad for those who have asthma,...as far as I know some people using barley drinks or home made barley water to release hit from our body...so,it means that barley is some sort of cold stuff(though we drink it hot) but the effect in our body will be different...so,in my own conclusion it might be bad for asthmatic people.

He probably knows his body's reactions better than anyone. But why he should persist with this drink is beyond me. Firstly he should be drinking clean, filtered water, at least 2 litres a day.
Secondly, his immune system is compromised. I suggest you take a look at the testimonies on the following website. I am sending you there because I am one of the people who has had my health turned around in this way. www.Glyco.com/Glycosaurus

Yeah, I've definitely had this experience. Most citrus drinks have the same effect if too strong. Not sure why though.
