Senile demetia is linked to smoking. Not through smoking but through the decreased life expectacy through smoking and the increased risk of Alzhimers by increased life expectacy of non-smokers.

So the question is:

Would you rather die from throat/lung cancer, coughing up blood, attached to an oxygen bottle everyday, not being able to do anything physical, possibly disabled until you die. Also, because of smoking, all of your close friends and family have been poisoned by the smoke, and you're to blame.

~OR~

Slowly losing your mind, amnesia, motor function loss, inability to feed yourself and (almost) needing to wear a nappy.

I would choose a bullet to the Medulla Oblongata. It's quick, painless and much less horriffic than either of these two. Plus (with regards to the first option) I won't poison my friends and family in the process.

Your question has no logic. Smoking can shorten life, it can also lead to a great reduction in the quality of life before you die. Emphysema for example. The majority of smokers will suffer ill health effects.

Senile dementia is entirely unconnected with smoking. It is a serious disease that is eventually fatal. The majority of people will not suffer from it.

Any sane person would like to live for as long as possible with the best quality of life.

Since there is nothing you can do to avoid senile dementia, the best thing is to hope you don't get it.

Since you can choose to stop smoking it makes great sense to do so.

How good would your quality of life be after all those years of smoking? What about hacking up black stuff as you are try to climb the stairs when you are 60. I watched my great grandfather die of emphysema....it was horrible. I watched his wife die with Alzheimer's...it was also bad, but she was oblivious. I would rather not die either way...both ways are not fun. Could you add dying in your sleep while not smoking or having mental deficiencies as an option?

depends how early early is? If I lived until 90, and had alzheimers for the last 5 years, I'd say that would be better than dying at 60..

Smoking leads to an increased risk of contracting Alzheimers

It depends on what you want. I personally think that Alzheimer's would suck, but in a different way than emphysema. But I like breathing, so I'd take the Alzheimer's when it came to it. At least with that you can hide your own Easter eggs.

As smokers die they find it harder and harder to breathe. I would not like to die like this. Give me a nice comfy nursing home and no memory and I would be blissfully happy.
