Three reasons: cost, convenience and practicality. It is very cheap and simple to turn a rectangle of cardboard into a square box. A few cuts and folds and you're done. Try creating a circular container out of one piece with all the parts still connected. The boxes can be shipped flat taking up very little space. Then, they assemble quickly and easily, are easy to stack and store, and still don't waste space. Assembled circular boxes would take virtually the same space.
Although it has no real bearing on the reason, think about this. Don't you usually start by taking a slice from a corner because it's easy to pick up?

YOU try making a ROUND box, then a SQUARE pizza, and see if you can't deduce the answer for yoruself. I think Dominoes does a pretty good job of a roundish box.

Square boxes are easier to make and cost less in production. Plus they're easier to fit on shelves in storage and ship in crates/boxes in trucks etc, where the spaces usually are square or rectangular and have corners.
Circles cant fit so nicely into squares and corners...

Round boxes would not close as easy and not be securely closed.

so we can ask questions like this that make us think. i think it is so it can fit and you can stick your hand inside and get it out. could you do that as well with a box in a shape of a circle?

my dad used to work for lil' cesars pizza place and he said that it made it easier to stack. and if certain cardboard were bent, they'd be shredded from oil. Plus they don't roll around too much
