Since feces breaks down into methane gas, its a great source of power.

Have a waste plant near you? Notice they have stacks with flames going? That is burning off any methane gas that is already getting produced so it doesn't explode.

If used properly, it is an excellent source of fertilizer. However, produce grown from soil with such fertilizer needs to be carefully processed before it goes on the market. The larger problem is the consolidation of animal feeding operations so that a handful of places start raising the bulk of our livestock. You put 10,000 hogs out in the country side and you have a waste disposal problem equal to a city with a population of 40,000, without the benefit of modern sewer and water reclamation? So what happens? They spread the manure over local farmlands. Great! A light layer is good fertilizer. It replaces nitrogen. But then what do they do with the 50% they didn't spray? It either leaches out into the soil or they spray again or just dump it somewhere. None of these options are good for public health. That's why the American Public Health Association has recommended that we in America stop building facilities like this. See http://www.apha.org/legislative/policy/2003/2003-007.pdf for the formal report.

Many cultures recycle feces for agriculture purpose but no cultures in this planet, no matter how primitive, they don't consume it directly. If someone told you this they are pulling your leg or they are also misinformed.
