I know this has been answerd already but sometimes if you get several answers in different words one might help more than the other.

As someone has already said the 100% reading that is coming from the pulse ox is a great thing. Normal reading is 97-100% Of course it can be 100% if the person is anemic or they've been exposed to carbon monoxide and they may not really be oxygenating well but that's a whole other subject all together.

As far as the 40% oxygen that is reading on the ventilator that simply means that they are providing 40% oxgen to her. Room air contains approximately 21% oxygen.

How long it will take to recover depends on what is wrong with her. Once the underlying condition that put her on the ventilator has been resolved then it should be no time for her to taken off and the tube pulled.

Ask the RT who comes in to manage the vent all your questions. Don't be shy.

a pulse ox of more 90 or more is excellent. The oxygen coming from the ventilator is currently enought to meet her needs if the pulse ox is at 100. I am sorry I can't tell you how long it will take her to recover since I do not know what is wrong with her. I wish you and her the best of luck.

if your mom's pulse ox is reading 100% then the ventilator is doing its job. they should be able to decrease her oxygen percent down maybe to 25%. the goal is actually to keep a patients oxygen level greater than 92%. if though your mom is in with some kind of heart condition it is better to keep her saturation higher. they may be able to wean her off the ventilator by trying cpap on her. this is a setting on the vent that will allow her to try to breath on her own but at the same time will give her a breath if the breath she takes is not adequate enough. hope she does well and good luck.

The Pulse Ox reading is great, that means that 100% of her blood is rich in oxygen. Your mother's wellness will depend on the illness she has, also, why is she is the SICU in the first place, and what other diseases does she have that may effect the acute situation...without more info about your mom, I'm afraid I can not be much help.

Pulse ox is 100% this means that the measurable oxygen by light source is 100% Now room air is 21.8% oxygen 40 % means she is on twice that of room air because she is requiring more that she can obtain from room air. Recovery depends on why she is ill and requiring ventilatory assistance, if she can be weened off of ventalator support and what her ABG's are (arterial blod gasses. These show a better picture of oxygen usage, consumption and metabolic state.

Hey, sound much better. 40% with 100% sats is much better than the 50-60% that she was on. Can't really tell you how long it will take her to recover but she definitely sounds like she is going in the right direction. Keep your chin up.
