I was prescribed Singulair for a week for my respiratory problem, which was thought to be asthma. However today, further tests were conducted on me to find out if it really was asthma since the Singulair did not help. The tests showed no signs of asthma, however my doctor still has not ruled it out.

What else could it be besides asthma? Could it have to do with my heart? My doctor also wants me to have an echo cardiogram done..if the cardiogram shows that it does have to do with my heart..whats next? is there a special medicine for that? aahh help =/

I prefer you consult a different doctor. Yours had done several mistakes (according to your story which might be inaccurate). When he suspected asthma, he should had conduct for you these respiratory function test before starting the singulair. In addition, singulair is not the first choice in treating asthma, so why he gave it to you? Again deciding on Echo is a bit early, he should first ask for chest x-ray to role out other respiratory diseases than asthma. There are a long list of diseases in lungs that cause symptoms like asthma. It is impossible for me to guess on line. Good luck.

I agree with the advice about seeking a second dotor's opinion.

There are specific tests to be done to diagnose astham before giving medication. (see link below) I am puzzled why your doc would have you do an EC for this, though. Maybe there are some details you have left out in your question.

Another possibility for the symptoms you describe is allergies.

It could be anxiety or panic attacks. It is also characterized by difficulty breathing, choking, sometimes twitching. If you are currently under significant stress, this could be a good guess. If you're consuming a lot of caffeine at the same time, that could possibly make things a lot worse as well.
