Penicillin is not used to cure a chlamydia infection. Penicillin is usually used to cure syphilis.

Amoxicillin, azithromycin, doxycycline, erythromycin, erythromycin ethylsuccinate, levofloxacin, and ofloxacin can ALL cure a chlamydia infection. A single dose of azithromycin or a week of doxycycline (twice daily) are the most commonly used treatments.

It is very important that a person with chlamydial infection take all of the prescribed medication, even after symptoms disappear. To be sure that the infection is cured, a follow-up visit to the doctor of clinic 1 to 2 weeks after finishing the medication may be necessary. Current research is focusing on the creation of rapid diagnostic tests and on the basic process of chlamydial infection.

my dr prescribed 4 zithromax to be taken at the same time when I was diagnosed. I felt much better the next morning. apparently (although I am hardly a med student) azithromycin (zithromax) is an alternative to penicillin.

dr's usually prescribe forms of it to cure but talk to a dr to really find out. Dont try to treat it at home yourself but taking old meds. go to the dr b/c chlamydia usually doesnt have any symptoms.

You can go to your local clinic and have it fixed for very cheap. $20 or less. And no penicillin will not work! Get ready for a penis swab. Don't worry, it it just uncomfortable not hurtful.
