NO! The ONLY STD you can get from a toilet seat it pubic lice (crabs) and even this is REALLY rare.

Most STDs need some sort of sexual contact with a person that has it. Whether it be sex (vaginal, oral, or anal) or by direct skin to skin contact with that person.

Many people on here are saying you can get herpes from a toilet seat - so NOT true. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years now. I lived with my two younger brothers for most of those 5 years and they NEVER got the virus from me. I've also had many friends and family members use the bathroom after me and they have never got herpes. It's just not spread like that.

Frankly if I had Eliza's doctor, I'd find another one. She had what "looked like" herpes. But wasn't tested and it disappeared never to be seen again (which is a possibility but unlikely). herpes can theoretically live longer than many viruses off the body but it's a skin to skin contact transmission.I just don't believe someone sat on a toilet seat at school and shed enough Herpes virus to stay alive and infectious on the toilet seat and then Eliza came along and came into contact with it. In a case like Eliza described, either it was not Herpes, or such a person has had some sexual contact which could have been oral sex, or , in a rare case, that person may have had a cold sore (which is also herpes) and it may have quickly found its way from her lip to her genital area. My guess is that it was not herpes at all. And a pediatrician who finds genital Herpes on a 6 year old girl should not be equating it with a toilet seat, s/he should be calling child welfare authorities to investigate. So to answer your question, no you cannot. There is the teeniest tiniest chance that if someone had an infection and left infected semen or vaginal fluid or blood on the seat and then you *immediately* sat down and, with open wounds pressed yourself or your genital openings into contact....then maybe. In reality, it's not a legitimate concern. You'd be better off being concerned about the pathogens on the handles and doorknobs and faucets in the public washroom. Take a look- if it's clean and dry there is no risk whatsoever. If someone has ingraciously left a drop or two of urine (yes it is sterile unless there is a uterine infection in play....which you would also not be able to get), just wipe it off the seat. Sit down and relax.

No. There is no STD that you can get from a toilet seat unless you immediately sat on a toilet seat that a person had just rubbed their genitalia on and then you did the same. The one thing you can get is crabs, they can exist on toilet seats breifly after someone has been on them. Getting STD's from a toilet seat is just an urban legend.

YES, you can get STD's from a toilet seat. I know for a fact. It all depends on which std it is. you can't get like chlamydia or syphilis from a toilet seat, but you can get others such as herpes. There are MANY std's not only the more "popular" ones. Go get checked out, ask the doctor if you can get the one you have from a toilet seat. YES, it does happen, not often but it does

Cold sores are caused by the herpes virus. Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

remember that you can remove genital warts by surgery, freezing, laser, acid or cream but genital warts can reappear again and again because genital warts appears when your immune system is weak!

I got diagnosed with herpes type 2 about seven years ago, when I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. However, Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again!
