I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic back in October, 1998. At the time, i was drinking 12 packs of coke everyday. Well, I started feeling weird, and thought something was up. I went to get a checkup, which included blood work, and a urine test. The urine test came back with sugar in it. When i had these test done, i did NOT fast, which you should always do before having any medical tests done. Well, they wanted me to come in for another blood test and urine test. That time, i DID fast, and it came back clear. I still knew something was going on in my system that was NOT good. So i had the 5 hour glucose test. The results were that i was, in fact, a type 2 diabetic, but the doctor told me i was a "very mild" case. I talked to people at the time, and they told me that there is no such thing as a "mild" case. Well, after drastically changing my eating habits, very little or no carbs, NO sodas, I started getting better. At the time, the nutritionalist told me "oh, i'd say that there will be a cure for diabetes in 5 years from now." This is back in 1998, and this will be the 8th year since i was diagnosed, and still no cure.
Anyway, i when i was diagnosed, i was put on glucophage. That lowered my sugar TOO much, close to going hypo a few times.. The doctor just had me on diet. Well, like every diabetic out there, i cheated a few times, and it brought up the sugars kinda high. Higher than 126 on your meter is a diabetic level. Anything under that means you are not diabetic. If i got above 126, i would take some of this herbal from a health food store called Gymnema Sylvestre, which is also known as the "sugar destroyer". It tasted really bad, but the results were amazing! If my sugar was ever TOO high, it brought it back down, like REALLY quick! It actually helps the pancreas increase the production of insulin.
Well, after ever 3 month HbA1c test, which all diabetics get, the doctor would give me a surprising result. I was NOT diabetic. It was wayy below a diabetic level. After a few of those, i was getting encouraged. The doctor told me "i don't see any reason why you have to keep taking these tests if you're results keep being normal. To be on the safe side, get one test a year and keep an eye on things, like if you have any symptoms that may indicate elevated blood sugar." I was pretty much cured, i guess. Or maybe i was never at a diabetic level, but just threw my pancreas into a tizzy by drinking all those damn cokes. Either way, i can eat or drink whatever i want, and i am not diabetic. One thing that i lament is the fact that before i was diagnosed as diabetic, i could eat or drink whatever i wanted, and not gain a pound. Nowadays, i just look at food, i gain weight. So it did mess up my metabolism.
Anyway, i recommend to anyone out there that is diabetic, or hyperglycemic, to try gymnema sylvestre!

The best medicine for diabetics is to get as healthy as possible so they don't have to take a lot of medication. Here's how:
For type I and type II diabetics (and those who are overweight and could potentially become diabetic). Copy and bookmark the webpages I‘ve listed below… they are invaluable for those with diabetes and/or weight problems...
I've found a wonderful book that will help you control your diabetes and minimize or even eliminate the complications. Some folks who became diabetic due to poor diet and obesity are effectively cured by following the advice in this book. I'm a type II (inherited), but it helps all types, especially those who became diabetic due to poor eating habits. It's by an author who has really done his homework, Patrick Quillin, Phd. It's called, "The Diabetes Improvement Program". I have tried his suggestions and found them to be very helpful. I have no complications whatsoever and my blood sugar levels are quite stable. Yes, I still have to take Metformin (Glucophage) daily, but it's the minimum dosage (500mg) and I only have to take it twice a day. I have been off Metformin for as much as a week, but this was with vigorous exercise. Many, what I call, non-hereditary type IIs (those that don't have a close relative who had it) have gotten off medication completely, just with diet, exercise, and supplements. So, in some instances, it most certainly can be 'effectively' cured. Read more about it here:
http://www.diabetesimprovement.com/
The book explains what's going on in our system and what to do about it. It's really easy and inexpensive. It's basically diet, supplements, and exercise. For example, did you know that cinnamon helps blood sugar absorption? It also controls cholesterol and triglycerides. This is according to the USDA:

As a diabetic, I'm always interested in hearing about new meds/treatments but haven't heard of any new pills in awhile. Please do post the info when you've found it.
By the way, Dr. Evil, regarding the "diabetese", you just made me laugh out loud and choke on my coffee...hope you're happy, lol.

There are new oral meds for diabetes, but if you are insulin dependant, these really areent what youre looking for. Insulin will never be in the form of oral pills, as insulin will be broken down by your stomach acids. But look up EXUBERA.

That is one funky sexy exotic spelling of diabetes.
"diabetese"
I will use it in a sentence:
"That girl with the insulin pump winking at me sure was a hot diabetese."
Dear rocherchi...,
Glad to make you laugh; sorry to make you choke.
