I've written a fairly extensive answer to this question already. Here - I'll re-post it for you.

The things that can give you pains in the chest range from trivial (soft tissue injuries) to severe and life threatening. You should really get checked out by a doctor.

Nonetheless - here are some reasons you might have pains in the chest

Skin - do you have a rash, particularly the blistery rash of "shingles"

Chest wall - have you sustained trauma (been struck) to the chest wall - you might have broken a rib or strained a muscle. This sort of pain is classically worse if you breathe or move.

Lung lining (Pleura) - some things, particularly viral illnesses can give rise to sharp pains related to the lining of the lung. This is a pain that is classically worse if you breathe or move.

Pneumothorax - air between the lung and the chest wall - can be spontaneous or relating to rib fracture

Pneumonia - chest infection - you'd be coughing, having a fever and off your food ...

Pulmonary Embolism - clot in the lung - small clots can get to the periphery and cause a pleuritic chest pain.

Ischaemic heart disease - occasionally an atypical heart attack can result in right sided pain.

Anxiety

If any of things are true, you need to call 911 or go to an ER, NOW!

The pain is still there
It is like a pressure or a heaviness rather than sharp or pinching
You feel short of breath, sweaty, or anxious
The pain came on during any sort of stress
You've used cocaine
You have ongoing medical conditions

If any of those things are true, call 911 or go to the ER now. Do not stop at the store to buy them, but if you have any aspirin in the house (not tylenol of ibuprofen) and if you are not allergic, take 325mg of ASA on your way out the door.

Gosling may be right, and I hope is, but there's no way to tell just from what you've told me. Things that make it less likely to be your heart include: tender to the touch, worse with certain body positions or with certain muscle activities like breathing, coughing, raising your arm, etc. But even so, I'd err on the side of caution if there's any suspicion that this is your heart.

It's not your heart at all. It's your sternal cavity. The cartilage attached to the ribs has becomed inflamed so take ibuprofin, a lot of it. Then ice it and rest. Don't participate in sports except walking, swimming, and cycling (on a bicycle built for two; this is a safety percaution, just in case it is heart related and you collapse and die there is someone there that can call 911, then scrape your body off the concrete and call a morgue.) Happy bicycling!

First and foremost you must consult a cardialogist.

Is the pain in the chest area or in the heart itself? Heart muscles also develop pain. If it is in the chest area,it could be muscular pain.

For the time being take half-a-teaspoon of neem oil and heat it to the lukewarm stage. Add a pinch of camphor (kapoor) to it and mix it thoroughly. Apply this mixture on the area where you feel the pain. If the pain is muscular, this will help.
