if someone that you know had mono, several years ago, does it stay in their system, and then becomes transferable from her to others? or does it go away once it is treated?

can bodily fluids (saliva, and otherwise) transfer this even several years later or is it safe and is gone? thanks alot for any REAL answers :)

Yes, but very unlikely. Mononucleosis is usually caused by the Ebstein-Barr virus. Like most viruses there is no actual medicine to cure it...it simply runs its course and your physician gives supportive care, ie. fluids, pain meds, etc. Antibiotics won't help as these only kill bacteria.
Regarding your question about transmission from one person to the next. There have been cases of people being long term carriers of EBV (the virus), but they do not usually spread the virus unless they are symptomatic. Some people who develop chronic fatigue syndrome (they feel tired all the time) are chronic carriers. They also do not spread the virus.

Mono stays in your system forever...the outbreaks are treated and usually don't come out that often, but are triggered by stress and little sleep.
It is totally possible that someone who had Mono 5 years ago could give it to you by sharing a glass.
