The black lung disease is what miners get working in coal mines. The black dust from the coal gets into their lungs and causes respiratory problems and cancer.

The actual term for black lung is 'pneumoconiosis'. It is caused from working years in the coal mines and inhaling very fine particles of dust that causes a gradual inflammatory reaction in your lungs leading to a scarring like effect. These patients develop symptoms very similar to emphysema (from smoking) with cough, wheezing, etc. They are usually but on inhalers and steroids. Very debilitating disorder.

Its what coal miners get from working around coal and breathing coal dust for many yrs.
My husband works underground in a Trona mine, completely different element. BUT he did work in a coal mine for a few months and hated it. Its colder and much more dangerous.
