Just think that there is a dead animal on your plate, I do that but not on purpose. When most people walk past the meat section at their local supermarket they see ground beef, steak, and chicken, etc. ,when I walk past the meat section I see shredded cow, chopped up cow, dead chicken, dead etc. Most people think of those things as a source of food but i see them as what they simply are, dead animals, that alone keeps me from being tempted or even thinking of eating meat. But I understand what you're talking about,it can be hard to give up something you really like. When I first went vegan I thought "I only have one life to live,am I really gonna live it depriving myself of meat and dairy products" after a certain point after giving up those things i realized how much I didn't need them, then I thought "how was I even eating those things before?"I hope I could help.

Here are tips:
1. Take your time - my journey from meat eater took about a year.
2. Start out using some basic substitutes for the meat you are used to in foods where you won't even notice - ground meat replacements are available in the frozen food sections.
3. Leave meat off things that don't need it - pizza, salad, spag, etc.
4. Get some good cookbooks when you are ready to branch into more interesting foods - Moosewood books and New Farm Vegetarian are two of my favorites.
5. If you are worried about what to eat check out the book "Diet for a New America" it will cover many of the health questions.
A good start is to pick one or two nights a week as "veggie" night. Then work your way from there stopping wherever you feel most comfortable which might be 2 nights a week or 7 nights a week up to you

first go to meat.org and watch the video..if that doesn't make you feel pain and get you in the right direction than i don't know what will. Second go to Peta.org and Goveg.com and get a vegan starter kit. Where do you live? Because that can make it easier or harder. When I lived in Texas I had a hell of a time being a vegeterian. Now that I live in boston I can actually surpass that and easily be a vegan. Try incorporating less spicy ready made indian food into your diet. They have a 90% vegeterian menu and the vegetables actually taste good. Try meat substitutes to cure those cravings. For protein eat lentils, beans, and legumes (a meat tasting vegetable). Make some vegeterian friends and have the right outlook. If you think that eating meat can be justified than you have a rough road ahead of you. Think of it as working towards animal rights. Remember people justified slavery and the lack of womens rights because it was easier on them.

What you have to remember is that those animals are only alive to begin with because they were raised to be consumed. Mr. Tyson is not running around in the wild capturing chicken so that you can have your chicken nuggets. If you really want to be a vegetarian I wish you all the luck in the world. But do it for your health, not for a social statement. Plan a healthy diet including all the essential amino acids. Stick to organic and bio dynamic foods...this can get expensive, look for a whole foods market or similar stores. If you are having a hard time getting away from meat try eating veggie foods that imitate non-veggie foods...i.e. Veggie Burgers, Veggie Hot Dogs, Tofurky, or try substituting portobello mushrooms for burgers or steak. Any who, good luck...and if you ever need a good meatloaf recipe give me a shout.

Even though I am not a vegetarian, and never will be, I would say the best way to become one would be to go to a slaughterhouse, and take a tour. Start out on the kill floor, and go all the way through the thing. Butchering an animal is a nasty mess, and if you are thinking about becoming a vegetarian, this will probably seal the deal.

Well, for one do not, i repeat do not replace protein(meat) with carbohydrates(bread, sugar, cake, etc.) because so many vegetarians do that. You need to eat lots and lots of vegatbles and fruits. Eat beans, brown rice, and try to find a meat substitution such as Grillers or veggie sausage.
Ease into it slowly, it will be much easier... and remember not make others feel bad about eating meat, only inform them about why you dont eat meat if they ask...
I hope i helped!!!

Begin by losing all common sense and focus on reality. Assume a more socialist attitude and become very condescending toward everyone. Eat only vegetables while around others, and sneak a periodic Whopper when you're by yourself.

Just ask the person next to you to give you a big hard slap in the face whenever you try to eat meat.

just keep brewing on the guilty feeling then you will be motivated on not eating those meat. but vegetarians can eat white meant {fish and chicken}. chicken doesnt feel pain when killed, because they keep moving after being head chopped and they just collasp peacefully after 30 minutes. and fish when killed instantly doesnt feel pain.
