Do you know what biltong is?

Biltong is exactly like jerky here in the States. It's basically just dried meat. It's a normal snack in South Africa...the first European settlers there lived in the middle of nowhere with no refrigeration, so they had to have a way to preserve the meat. You can get kudu biltong, beef biltong, all sorts of different game meat biltong. I ate it on a regular basis while I lived down there.

Biltong: derived from the Dutch bil ("rump") and tong ("strip"), is a South African dried meat (mainly beef, game, chicken or ostrich) typically made from fillets of meat cut into strips following the grain of the muscle, or flat pieces sliced across the grain.
