I had two high risk encounters within 25 days of each other (5/4/04 & 5/29/04) with the same person and I tested for HIV on August 10th (to cover the first encounter & I tested 73 days after the last encounter- 5/29/04) and it came back negative. Would I need another test for the last encounter & if I would, what would you think the results would be?

The window period for HIV testing is 3 months. This means to find out your HIV status, you must wait for 3 months AFTER the LAST TIME YOU HAVE HAD UNPROTECTED SEX, and get tested. Any tests done before the3 month period will not be 100% conclusive. At the 13 week mark, get tested and the result will be 100% conclusive. Make sure to wait 13 weeks after the last time you've had unprotected sex. The answers on this page are very misleading. If you want a very good resource with accurate information, go to : www.aidsmeds.com and read 'the lessons' section.

Yes the virus can stay in your body without causing any symptoms for years, but it doesnt mean that it will not be detected with the HIV test AFTER the 3 MONTH window period.
HIV is the VIRUS that causes the DISEASE called AIDS.
It may take years before one gets full blown AIDS but you dont ever test negative for HIV for years and all of a sudden start testing positive. All it takes is 3 months and if you have HIV it shows up in tests.

Relax. You have little or no to be involved approximately. Let me inform you why: one million) The risk of contracting HIV from a unmarried episode of unprotected oral intercourse is expected round one million in ten thousand (IF your accomplice is inflamed). two) Some professionals even suppose that HIV are not able to be transmitted via oral intercourse. They suppose that it has not ever occurred. three) There has been no convincing documented circumstances of HIV transmission via oral intercourse. four) It may be very not likely that your accomplice had HIV. HIV stay a infrequent sickness specifically in industrialized nations like US. Now loosen up and appear at what I instructed you and you'll observe that the risk of contracting HIV from the publicity you defined is just about 0. Now the nice technique to placed this in the back of you and transfer on together with your existence is to get validated round 6-eight weeks after this publicity. Almost all inflamed individuals experiment constructive via this time. You can virtually be certain that your experiment will likely be bad. You quite often can even get in contact together with your loved ones physician. Good good fortune.

Yes, If I were you I would get tested again sometimes the virus itself can be dormant in your body for years and ten years down the line you can test positive all from that one encounter. Its pretty scary because you have to consider who all the person has been with and who those people have been with! The risk is so high! Use protection! I'm married now for 3 years and still scared that i'll test positive from anytime or years down the line because of stupid irresponsible encounters and the really bad part about it is there would be no way to really know for 100% where i contracted it because like i say its not just the one person you have slept with its also whoever they have slept with and so on! Scary Huh?

There is no way to rpedict your results, as exposure does not mean infection.

But most sexualy active people who play with multiple partners AND who think that HIV prevention is a wise and good thing testy regularly- every 6 months if you engage in high risk behaviors, every year at least otherwise.

And, most active souls keep a 'play kit' containing condoms and other barriers.

If high risk activities include other than sexual contacts, most wise people carry bleach and sterile water. Use small vials & don't forget them!

Whatever your circumstance, peace of mind is worth the additional tests. Do them.

Ok, listen up here it is. You need to wait 3 months after the last encounter and sometimes they perfer 6 months. 73 days is not quite 3 months. You need to get tested again. Most likely it will be negative but, to ease your mind get tested again. I was afaird to get tested again too but, I am glad I did. Mine was negative. I had a higher chance too because the man gave me herpes. So bite your tounge and get your last test. Next time protect your self well and remember how you felt when you were afaird to go get tested!

if youve had sex since then...I would get tested again just in case. They said to get a HIV test every 6-12 months depending on how frequent you have sex. I took 2 (May 04 and June 05) Good luck!

HIV is tricky and can appear at anytime even if recently u had the test taken...It could even appear 5 yrs later...The smartest idea is to not have unprotected sex and to know ur partner very well.

apparently HIV can decide not to show up years later. I would get tested annually, if you have encounters with possible infected people (or even people you think are clean).

well, normally laboratories and sexual health clinics recommend that the person gets tested 3 months after exposure so not one month or two but three months should give you a good result.
good luck
