Science has not proved that eating meat is unhealthy. That's why.
Eating meat to excess is unhealthy and red meat is arguably unhealthy. A balanced diet however is healthy. And that can include meat.

When it comes to unhealthy diets there are bigger fish to fry, so to speak. Unless someone is a health fanatic this is not the way to make them think twice about eating meat. In any case, it can be incorporated into a healthy diet- just not as much as many people eat.

I am personally a vegetarian because I won't support animal cruelty. If I'm going to get worked up about it, that's the only reason. I suspect your issues with meat run deeper than it being unhealthy for the person eating it- in which case, say so, because otherwise you'll have to go after sweets and crisps too!

Because as humans we have a free choice, our bodies are designed to eat meat as part of a balanced diet, so what is wrong with that if people choose to do so. I agree that some animals are kept in horrendous conditions, and that is something that we could change, by eating meat that comes from an organically farmed animal it comes from an animal that has had a better life, in better conditions, I only buy meat from a source where I know it has been looked after and treated decently, a happy animal makes for tastier meat.

I am a meat eater and the plain fact is that I really like the taste!

Poultry is healthly - it is only red meat that is high in fat and not so good for you, but everything in moderation.........

Rather than the health issue, it is the lack of humane animal farming that is more likely to put me off eating meat.

Too much of a good thing is bad for you. We do need our protein. I know that for some people they can live a very healthy life without meat. (Only if they have the education of how to eat healthy.) For some of us we don't like the taste of vegis. I can not stand the taste of vegis and some meat. I still eat those things because that is what keeps me alive.

Face it we are made to be meat eaters just as some other animals are, for example Lyons.

It all comes down to "It's a choice each individual makes."

Meat eaters won't completely understand why people strictly stick to vegis. The people who stick to vegis will never understand why us meat eaters eat meat.

I used to work at a food place where I had to gut out baby chickens. A kid who does not eat meat at all asked me how I could do this. I told him it's my job. He said at one time that chicken was alive. I told him I was very aware of this. I also told him that the vegis he eats was once a living thing. Just because it doesn't moo, baaa, etc doesn't mean it is dead. Vegis are alive and then we kill them to eat them. "Think about it."

Yes, science has proven this.
The simple answer is ignorance, The complex answer can range from topics including advertising on one hand to the low carb craze on the other.

I need to respond to a few posts above:

The very fact that animals exist in some of your minds is an excuse to eat them. This is about the stupidest augment I've ever heard. "God put them here for us to eat." No, no s/he didn't you half wit. These animals make up the ecosystem that supports us. with out them we are no longer exist. Get that though your oxygen starved skulls.

Second, Wile it's true we are classified as omnivores, I think maybe some of you should look up the definition of that word. The very fact we CAN eat another animal makes us an omnivore it does not mean we have to or should. In fact our bodies can't hardly even handle eating meat. even a small amount over a sustained period of time raises your risk of coronary artery disease significantly.

The scieance is there people, why dont you read it.

"You're thinking I'm one of those wise-*** California vegetarians who is going to tell you that eating a few strips of bacon is bad for your health. I'm not. I say it's a free country and you should be able to kill yourself at any rate you choose, as long as your cold dead body is not blocking my driveway." -- Scott Adams (writer of "Dilbert").

"The beef industry has contributed to more American deaths than all the wars of this century, all natural disasters, and all automobile accidents combined. If beef is your idea of "real food for real people, you'd better live real close to a real good hospital." -- Neal D. Barnard, M.D., President, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

Eating meat is not not healthy. It is the exess in which we eat it that is unhealthy. People should be expossing themselves to more non animal products. Anything in excess is bad for you. You need to keep a balance of all the things you eat. Vegetarianism or Veganism are ways of life not diets.

Science has proven no such thing, on the contrary, it is usually better than a vegetarian diet.

I know I quote this a lot, but it saves time typing:

"It is well established that eating meat improves the quality of nutrition, strengthens the immune system, promotes normal growth and development, is beneficial for day-to-day health, energy and well-being, and helps ensure optimal learning and academic performance.
A long term study found that children who eat more meat are less likely to have deficiencies than those who eat little or no meat. Kids who don’t eat meat — and especially if they restrict other foods, as many girls are doing — are more likely to feel tired, apathetic, unable to concentrate, are sick more often, more frequently depressed, and are the most likely to be malnourished and have stunted growth. Meat and other animal-source foods are the building blocks of healthy growth that have made America’s and Europe's youngsters among the tallest, strongest and healthiest in the world.
Meat is an important source of quality nutrients, heme iron, protein, zinc and B-complex vitamins. It provides high-quality protein important for kids’ healthy growth and development.
The iron in meat (heme iron) is of high quality and well absorbed by the body, unlike nonheme iron from plants which is not well absorbed. More than 90 percent of iron consumed may be wasted when taken without some heme iron from animal sources. Substances found to inhibit nonheme iron absorption include phytates in cereals, nuts and legumes, and polyphenolics in vegetables. Symptoms of iron deficiency include fatigue, headache, irritability and decreased work performance. For young children, it can lead to impairment in general intelligence, language, motor performance and school readiness. Girls especially need iron after puberty due to blood losses, or if pregnant. Yet studies show 75 percent of teenage girls get less iron than recommended.
Meat, poultry and eggs are also good sources of absorbable zinc, a trace mineral vital for strengthening the immune system and normal growth. Deficiencies link to decreased attention, poorer problem solving and short-term memory, weakened immune system, and the inability to fight infection. While nuts and legumes contain zinc, plant fibre contains phytates that bind it into a nonabsorbable compound.
Found almost exclusively in animal products, Vitamin B12 is necessary for forming new cells. A deficiency can cause anaemia and permanent nerve damage and paralysis. The Vitimin B12 in plants isn't even bioavailable, meaning our body can't use it.
Why not buy food supplements to replace missing vitamins and minerals? Some people believe they can fill those gaps with pills, but they may be fooling themselves. Research consistently shows that real foods in a balanced diet are far superior to trying to make up deficiencies with supplements."

Meat is healthy. It is the single most nutritious food, pound for pound, in the world. Supposed disadvantages are often false and embellished and taken out of context at best. It doesn't cause heart disease/lower your lifespan or cause cancer, and the implication that it is unhealthy is actually quite ignorant in itself.

Because its ingrained into peoples heads that you need meat and cant get the Iron and other proteins without it. We all know that is crap. If people choose to not educate themselves its a nations prerogative to be ignorant.

I thought lots of red meat was bad for you but the odd steak was ok.

I still eat it as I like the taste but I don't buy that processed stuff.

2006-10-02 01:55:23 · answer #10 · answered by Anonymous · 2 1

because if you cut out a lot of red meat and dont eat it as much meat it is healthy.

and you are not ignorant because you do not listen to views of others maybe you should examine how you act before judging others.
