well, it's 3 things, cruelty, environment and health. In other countries, it is acceptable to eat dogs and cats. Animals are tortured everyday. It is much healthier to be vegetarian, less diseases, more energy. Over 50% of the country is dedicated to raising animals for meat. Also the amount of grain and food used is outrageous. To produce an 8oz steak, it takes the equivalent of 50 bowls of rice. What could feed more hungry people 50 bowls of rice or a steak?

dude im from india but your question's answer can be provided from a guy like me cuz in india a cow is supposed to be a sacred animal and also a killing of a cow is a sin in hinduism but since india has christian & muslim population beef is eaten in some areas . therefore any hindu in america would condemn it anyways as a whole the beef industry should be banned bcuz the people who own these cattle farms kill innocent animals which cant express their feelings of pain but just keep mooing and earn their profits through the suffering of others

I think it fuels an oversexed culture/society. I like cows better than having sex. I dont think their lives are worth so little, if that's why there is so much beef-eating going on.
I like to stare at cows, theyre pretty. But I needed quite a few hamburgers for about a year. I am happy I have not needed to eat any hamburgers lately. I feel like such a failure when I have to eat meat. It doesnt seem like it should be a part of an ideal society; but maybe necessary to one not living in accordance with God's laws

I'm a vegetarian. Have been for 14 years. I have no opinion towards the beef industry, as I feel each person makes their own personal decision of what they will and will not consume.

Even if it was ethical to eat cows, it is unethical to support the cruelty done to these animals in factory farms. They feel pain just like we do, and they are put through a lot of it. They are given very little room to run around, they are fed crappy food, they are extremely mishandled, and they are killed in inhumane ways. They basically lead a tortured life. These aren't cute little farms where the cow is killed for food when it's old, these are factories.

Guess it depends on the vegan you talk with. Personally, I am against the way cattle are raised, particularly in factory farms.

Am I against people eating meat? No. But I do think people should look at how their food is raised and prepared.

Unsanitary, cruel, unnatural(because of hormones),sickening. Can you do me a favor and try organic ground beef and then try regular ground beef you'd find in a normal supermarket.I've always wondered if there was difference in the two (taste, texture, whatever, etc)
