From the symptoms sounds like a pneumonia. I would first call an advise nurse. As for at home cures, I would cut down on my smoking. Physical activity I would also decrease til I felt better, Intake more water (this will make mucus easier to cough up). The reason you are coughing more at night is because the body is in one position longer and allow for the mucus to "pool" in one position in your lungs. As for your chest hurting it is more likely due to some over strained muscles used while coughing. Some over the counter pain medications will put a stop that.

It could be a sinus infection. Or just pnuemonia or the likes. Ask the pharmacist. There is an over the counter "musinx" ( I think) that breaks up the congestion. Use that and a good cough silencer cough syrup so you can get some sleep. During the day, use a expectorant cough syrup. Good luck and don't assume it's all from smoking. It doesn't help, but you could have a virus.

I know how you feel I have the same problem. Go see the doctor tomorrow! Umm also, gargle salt water... and try to throw up again? Throwing up makes it a little better because almost all of the mucus comes out... And can't you see the doctor tomorrow!? Also, maybe you have swine flu.. You can even try eating more cough drops and take motrin too! Helps a lot.. Hope we all stop being sick, Roxanna (not my real name people!)

Sounds like a pretty standard case of Bronchitis, to me. You should go to the doctor and get some antibiotics. In the meantime, Mucinex is the best over-the-counter decongestant. Plus, stop doing physical activities until you feel better--and try to smoke *less* at least while you are under the weather.

A teaspoon of brown sugar (let it dissolve in your mouth, then swallow it) stops my smoker's cough.......Elevate your head (a couple of pillows will do) at bedtime........Sounds like a sinus infection to me........Better make a dr appointment......Take care, dear......
