Of course.

If you have cold sores (typically herpes simplex virus 1) it is possible for you to spread it to someone else by kissing them though. This is the most common way of spreading cold sores. It's also possible to spread them to someone by sharing a drink with someone, sharing chapstick, lipstick, even cigarettes.

If you have genital herpes (typically herpes simplex virus 2) you can NOT pass it to someone by kissing them. Genital herpes is spread by sex and direct skin to skin contact with the area.

You should avoid. You may be infected with HSV1 without signs on your lips. You may infect your partner.

Causes Of Genital Herpes

Genital herpes is caused by herpes virus- HSV. HSV are of two types- HSV1 and HSV2. HSV1 causes more of oral herpes and HSV 2 causes more of genital herpes. But HSV1 can also affect the genital area and cause herpes. Genital herpes is contacted by sexual contact. Anybody who has genital herpes can pass on the virus to his/her partner through a cut in the skin or mucous membrane. If somebody has cold sores and performs oral sex, he/she can also transmit the virus and cause genital herpes in partner.

Once the virus enters the body, it multiplies rapidly. The herpes virus remains in the body and may either be active or inactive. During the active period, the virus travels to the genital area and causes sores. During inactive period, it remains dormant in the body. When genital herpes is contacted, virus shows up in the first episode of herpes and after that goes in to sleeping mode to recur again. Read more about that in symptoms. more-

You can kiss someone but you risk the chance of the other person getting it too. The risk is the greatest when you have had the sores on your mouth or you get that tingle feeling right before you break out. The closer to your breakouts, the more of a potential that the other person will get it too.

Genital or like a cold sore. If you have a cold sore it is not a good idea as you can give it to your partner, as my hub did me. If you have a cold sore on your mouth you can also give someone genital herpes.

wouldn't do it with open sore....

unless, of course, the person you're kissing has herpes too...

if not: you better tell him/her first!
