It is known as Lung Congestion-

distention of blood vessels in the lungs and filling of the alveoli with blood as a result of an infection, high blood pressure, or cardiac insufficiencies (i.e., inability of the heart to function adequately). The alveoli in the lungs are minute air sacs where carbon dioxide and oxygen exchange occurs.

This can result in pulmonary edema which is is swelling and/or fluid accumulation in the lungs. It leads to impaired gas exchange and may cause respiratory failure. It is due to either failure of the heart to remove fluid from the lung circulation ("cardiogenic pulmonary edema"), or due to a direct insult to the lung parenchyma ("noncardiogenic pulmonary edema").Treatment depends on the cause, but focuses on maximizing respiratory function and removing the cause

Lung Congestion and Chest Cold

You can help prevent collection of the secretions that can cause lung congestion and respiratory complications and keep the secretions thin, loose, and easy to bring up by:

Deep breathing
Coughing
Turning at least every two hours while in bed
Drinking adequate amounts of fluids
Sitting up for short intervals (if no fever is present)
Using postural drainage
Using percussion
In Deep breathing, you expand the air sacs of the lungs. This expansion of the air sacs helps to keep them from becoming blocked with mucus. Deep breathe at least once an hour when you are aware. Use an incentive spirometer or other equipment to help you breathe deeply.

Coughing will expel the mucous secretions. If you cannot cough on your own, you will need help to cough. This is called an assisted cough.

Click on Postural drainage and Percussion for more information on these preventive measures.

If you are a quadriplegic or high paraplegic, call the doctor even if you have a small amount of congestion. Don't wait until you have a fever.

Best of Luck,

They have brains. When you take into account how little of our brains we use, it's not as surprising that something so small can still function so well. Circulation was already addressed. They also do not have lungs, but rather have open passageways all over their body where oxygen is absorbed (they have "airways", but all over the place and they don't pump air in and out like we do). That's another thing that keeps them size limited.
