While there are many, HIV is the worst, Herpes is also bad but not quite as acute as HIV. Most of the others respond to various therapies, ie. lymphogranuloma venerum is a problem but eventually we can manage the lymphatic ulcerations and stop the discharge. Syphilis is easy to treat if diagnosed...it is rather a secretive disease with few symptoms, but if it enters the tertiary stage, it is incurable. Gonorrhea used to be easy but because many people failed to complete the total treatment, resistant strains of the Neisseira have developed and it is becoming more difficult to treat. Condyloma accuminata is easily treatable. Trichomonas vaginalis responds to metrinidazole well. New therapies are being developed but both the bacteria and the various viruses mutate into new strains rapidly and like the common cold, there simply is no finite cure, now or in the future. Hepatitis is technically not an STS but a serious malady. But by extrapolation we could include infectious mononucleosis and transmissible by kissing. There is no cure but the disease is usually fairly mild but I have had patients with cerebral mononuclear meningitis.

In addition to the above nasties, there was one important sexually transmitted disease that was omitted: ignorance and prejudice. This is a disease often passed on to children from their parents. Just look around you.

Bactieral STDs are curable; viral ones are NOT curable.

A way to remember this is ALL the STDs starting with the letter H are NOT curable.

There are no cures for HIV/AIDS, herpes, hepatitis, and HPV (which cause warts and cancer).

HIV, Herpes, Syphillis, Hepatitis. Check out the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website. They offer a lot of thorough info on the subject.
