Shifting your perspective can help a lot. The wording you use to talk to yourself can make all the difference.

For example, "I shouldn't eat these french fries" doesn't sit the same way in my mind that "I choose not to eat these french fries" does. The first seems like a rule upon which someone else decided...like some kind of mandate that you had nothing to do with creating. The second is your own rule that you picked, and thus both your own choice and personally empowering. Just a change in a couple of words really makes all the difference in the meaning (at least for me).

I also ask myself the question, "Is it good for me?" a lot. I made the rule that if my own answer was no, then I would need to decide not to eat/drink/do whatever it is. They key is listening to your own answer and then taking action based on that answer. (If you're not sure if something is good for you or not, the internet is an amazing information source).

Developing a sense of disgust for the things you are trying to avoid always helps, too. For example, I became a vegan for health reasons, and although I love cheese, I do not eat it because I have decided that the amount of cholesterol is distasteful to me. Why would I want to mess up my wonderfully cholesterol-free diet with a silly moment of indulgence?

More than anything else, I think it's important to pause before you eat something for just a minute and ask yourself, "Why am I eating this? Do I need this? Is it good for me in any other way than for my taste buds?" Consciousness and awareness of what you are doing and why helps a great deal!

Good luck

The old question! I find that eating everyting more slowly and savoring the flavours helps. A few spoonfulls of sticky toffee pudding when you enjoy every mouthfull is wonderful - but if you eat slowly enough the body soon sickens of it. I used to eat really quickly and never paused to taste the food I was eating. I now find I am much more self regulating.

Sure I still eat the odd piece of Turkish Delight - but at least I dont hogg down the whole bar!!

Try to start eating more fresh fruit and vegetables. I have cut out all chocolate and cakes and have replaced them with different kinds of fruit. I also like to nibble on rice cakes, these stop me from wanting to eat the naughty stuff. I try to vary what I eat so i don't get bored. When buying food check the fat content in 100 grams. If it is below 5% it is ok to eat.

By starting eating the good foods with practice and patients and commitment you should be able to do it. A raw carrot will suddenly taste as good as the naughty foods you describe take care

Throw out the naughty foods, buy fresh fruit etc., and stop going to the drive-through on your way home from work/school.. if you have to go to a fast-food place then head to the nearest Subway

Thats a tough one ! First you have to decide what is naughty
and what is not and then just say no to naughty when it creeps
into your mind. Lots of us are struggling with this, but many have
no idea what they should be eating and therefore have no resolve.
Thats why quitting smoking is easier - You have to make up your mind to just say no. Once you have decided what you should
eat - dont argue with your self - Just say no ! Its not easy, but just keep picking at it and say no as many times as you can.

Your posting in the Veggie and vegan section so I assume you mean animals by "naughty"

Just do it, no need to think about it a second longer.

Whiel you're pining for that bacon sandwich, book yourself into a trip to a slughter house just to confirm your new found beliefs.

Don't try to give them up completely!
Treat yourself ONCE IN A WHILE!
I watch what I eat, but especially in the fall, when the farmstands sell homemade apple cider donuts.....I indulge.
I don't make them, and it's only for a short time once a year, and I figure "hey...I may not be here next fall to have them".
ENJOY LIFE ONCE IN A WHILE...IT GOES SO FAST!

What are naughty foods? Do they run around naked shouting and screaming or something? No, seriously please tell me what you are talking about so that I can edit this answer to give you the advice you request - I have no idea what a naughty food is.

Depends on what you mean by naughty foods. No food is naughty only if you over indulge - and if you find the secret to stop overindulging in eating favourite foods do please share as I know it is hard.
