A fruit is the part of a plant that contains the seeds like pumpkins, apples, and cucumbers. A vegetable is any other plant part, like roots, tubers, stems, and leaves. Grain is the seed of a plant like wheat or corn(maize). Sometimes fruits are considered vegetables (tomatoes) but technically they are fruits.

Both, pumpkins and squashes, belong to the same family cucumbers, honey dew, and cantaloupes.
They all are fruits from the cucurbitaceous variety.

Plus anything with seed is a fruit. Legumes (beans) are not fruits snce they're not seeds.
