After a fainting spell blood test showed STD - partner was informed. Would test necessarily have been done on him or were drugs given due to exposure alone based on my test? This is not a current issue but one that has been always thrown back at me & for my mental health would like to know once & for all if there is a definitive answer.

I had no other symptoms and have since learned that some blood disorders show a false positive.

Please note as stated above - this is not a current event - it was all reported at the time. I'm just trying to find out if the blame and abuse I've shouldered all these years by my partner was really my fault.

It is as impossible to tell from a test which partner was first infected as it is to guess if the chicken or egg came first. Before anyone is treated for an STD, a lab test is done to detect whether there is one present or not. The only persons who could even possibly shed light on the matter would be the persons involved. If you both had other partners, and one of you obviously did- then the that one likely was the first infected. If you both had other partners at the same time- it would be nearly impossible to really ever know. When you are treated for an STD, law requires the medical personnel ask you for information regarding all of your partners. They are in turn contacted, usually through the Health Department and asked to come in for an exam, testing and treatment. They are not told who named them as a contact- only that they were named by somebody who was diagnosed with an STD. They can't discuss who named who, to anyone involved. They can't tell you who else your partner named and they can't even tell your partner you named him. He can guess- but he won't be told for certain by medical personnel. That is by federal law, by the way- and violations come with a hefty fine and prison term for violators. As ridiculous as it may sound- if a husband is diagnosed, you have to contact his wife- but you can't tell her she was named by him. The only way you can tell is if you have his written consent for you to do so.

as far as i know there is no absolute way to know for sure who transmitted you the disease. that's why you need to contact all your previous sexual partners so that you could inform them and advise them to get tested and treated.

maybe one way of knowing is matching your symptoms/test with your partner's but this would not indicate that he/she was the one who infected you. it would just tell that either you or him/her have infected the other. you know, there is a possibility that you are the one spreading the std you got from a partner you had a long long time ago.

thus, prevention is the key. abstain.
