Fruit flies are small, fast, and incredibly annoying. Unlike other flies and mosquitoes, fruit flies are almost impossible to swat and only the smallest of screen meshes will prevent their entry into your house.
A pest control problem at any time of year but especially during late summer and early fall, fruit flies thrive wherever they find ripe or fermenting vegetables and fruits. They will infest empty bottles, sink drains, and anywhere else in your home or business where there are fruit remains.
Finding out how to get rid of fruit flies properly is critical for your comfort. If left alone, fruit flies will multiply at an incredible rate with an adult fly laying up to 500 eggs that mature in about a week and leave you with a considerable pest control problem.
How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies
Learning how to get rid of fruit flies is easily done, but turning theory into practice requires a little do it yourself pest control. Effective pest control includes elimination of existing adult flies and eggs as well as preventing further infestation.
The following list includes some suggestions for do it yourself fruit fly pest control:
* Remove organic garbage and anything else that might attract fruit flies from the house as frequently as possible.
* Hang sticky strips from the ceiling in your kitchen or pantry to get rid of fruit flies.
* Fill a small jar or container with vinegar, fruit juice, or fermented fruit and insert a paper funnel - fruit flies will be able to fly in but not out.
Now that you have discovered how to get rid of fruit flies, be thorough in taking measures to prevent further or repeated infestation. If such steps are taken, you can be assured that a fruit fly problem will be prevented.

I just got an email last week with many tips about different topics. The one about fruit flies said something about Apple Cider vinegar and dishwasher soap. I don't have amounts until I check the email where I work. I have the same problem in my home and I set some out last night, with no results from being out overnight. I can send that info out when I get it. Good Luck!

Any sweet should do it. They like sparkling sweet wine for sure! You also need to keep your fruit from sitting on the counter. I never even throw eaten fruit in the garbage..I toss it outside for a snack for critters.

I don't know why this question is posted here but I encourage you to find a solution to your fruit fly problem without needlessly killing them.
Fruit flies are attracted to mostly fermented products such as alcohol and ripening fruits. Keep your kitchen as clean as possible, take out the trash extra, open some windows to let them out, etc. Eventually they'll wind out there life cycle.
Be diligent about your cleanliness and you will not have to be the cause of unnecessary suffering. Best of wishes on this current endeavor.
