I'm a 23yr old female. I recently have chest pains on my left side. It feels like I need to burp but nothing comes out. Then I have difficulty breathing. What can it be? Heart burn? Am I too young for that?

Any chest pains should be checked out by a doctor right away, especially in women. It could be as simple as heartburn, but it also could be heart related. You are never too young for either. Don't assume it could not be heart related. Assuming can get you dead.

As you are young and assuming otherwise healthy it would be very rare for it to be your heart. However if you are worried you should get it checked, as worrying about it will only cause more problems. If it's on your left side this is normally suggestive of pleuritic (lung) pain, or stomach pain. A lot of people don't often realise where exactly the stomac sits. it's quite high up on the left but also spreads to the middle so can cause "chest area" pain. If it's burning, I'd say more than likely stomach probs. Maybe gastric reflux, indigestion, ulcer. the difficulty in breathing is probably a secondary reaction to you being in pain and caused by anxiety. But obviously without seeing you/getting a full history is hard to completely diagnose. If you have a productive cough (phlegm) or the pain gets worse when you take a deep breath IN, it could be you have a chest infection. Try pharmacy or GP though, if not for your peace of mind. good luck.

I agree with Seikilos. I had two M.I.'s at age 42 - and they think I had my first before that. I knew there was "something" wrong - but not what.
All women please pay attention - we "present" differently. The shooting pain down the left arm bit is out of fashion. I've NEVER had it and I've had three heart attacks.
I thought mine was heart burn. Fortunately, I kept pushing my GP to keep running tests. After the stress echo and nuclear dye stress test, he told me to go home and rest until I heard from him. BOING!! The next day I was in Cardiac ICU in Buffalo (Excellent medical facilities by the way.)
I think HE thought I was "just a nervous little lady" and I did have a high pressure job, was a single Mom, blah, blah, blah. Anxiety.
Well, now, I've had three heart attacks they know of and also am dealing with PTSD, anxiety and depression. They were 5 years ago. I had to leave my job and, in a nutshell, lost two years of my life, and the next 2 years taking care of my parents out-of-state while my DAD went through a 6-way by-pass. (I didn't know they did 6!!) He passed last November and I have my mother here. Fun?? No!!
I smoked, horrible family history (most of which I was unaware of until I had mine), stressful job - the works. Now I'm scraping by on SSD and a little I can make on the side. Because I can't have STRESS!! I have a son.
Do not ignore this. Get to a Doc IMMEDIATELY. I HOPE you have heartburn. Many of the symptoms are the same. Take a relative with you to take notes and ask questions you don't think of. Preferably an adult male. Docs listen to them. Force your Doc - nicely of course - to schedule you for ALL Cardiac stress tests, echos, nuclears, etc. To RULE it out.
PLEASE - you haven't lived - you sure can't die. I was LUCKY!! With #3, the ER Doc told my friend I had 5 more minutes or my son would have been orphaned at 10.
God bless...

I just saw my doctor about this last week. It could be heart problems, but that is highly unlikely if you lead a pretty normal lifestyle and you aren't genetically inclined. My pain was a tightening in my chest and then the breathing problems. When you get heartburn, which I do, it could stimulate the nerve that is near/ controls your heart. If you feel heart pain of course there are going to be breathing issues because you probably freak out or get somewhat worried. Also.. you could be having a panic attack. Just three possibilities...

Wow. It turns out like your describing anything very similar to what I skilled as a child and on occasion as an grownup. I get the ones achy, sharp soreness in my chest / rib subject. Often the soreness is slight however normally it is so dangerous I can barley take a breath. It additionally feels find it irresistible begins on the backside of my rib cage after which travels up my aspect because it slowly is going away. I used to be informed through my health care provider it used to be "developing" pains. Then whilst I used to be older, I introduced it up once more and he mentioned it would be a muscle junk mail. It's been months seeing that I've had one. With me, the soreness most effective final a couple of seconds and on the so much a minute or 2. They additionally most effective appear to occur a couple of times in an afternoon whilst i do have them. I might endorse that in the event that they arise extra mainly, more than one instances in an afternoon I'd see any one approximately it. It would be not anything or it would be anything (style of noticeable reply).

A 23 year old generally isn't considered in the age group as being a risk factor for a heart attack or angina. But these are symptoms of a heart attack. Talk with your doctor. There are things that increase risks for a heart attack. It's not impossible at 23.

Go see a doctor. When there is an arterial occlusion there is a short supply of oxygen in your heart muscle tissue. See this site and the related links for more information:

You most likely either have heartburn or anxiety/panic. I'd suggest making an appointment with your local doctor. Having these symptoms obviously is uncomfortable. The doctor could find out more for you.
