If you read the ingredients to the sauce mix, chances are that you'll find meat stock was added. Hamburger Helper does that a lot. One trick to finding cheese-based vegetarian mixes on the shelves fast is to look for the Kosher seal -- the U in a circle -- because if meat was part of the mix, since it's cheese-based, it wouldn't be Kosher; sometimes you don't even find a Kosher seal on cheese ravioli, because there's meat in the tomato sauce.

You have to check the label, but there are soy alternatives that you can buy. You can even buy crumbled veggie "meat". It's best to make sure that each item comes in a seperate container. Depending upon which helper you get, you may be able to keep from eating the meat if it is packaged seperately.

Most grocery stores carry the alternative "meat". It is usually Boca or Morning something in a green package that they carry, but Boca is superior to the other brand.

I Love that name! My boyfriend is an Andrew...

Anyway, some seasoning are made with anchovies, so just check the side of the box. If the ingredients list is free of meat, then you'll be fine with veggie "ground beef"

Heck, yeah! I use the Morningstar Farms Veggie Crumbles. You can find it in the frozen foods aisle. My un-vegetarian family eats it all the time. Good stuff for Hamburger Helper, veggie chili, meatless spaghetti sauce, etc.

I would use tofu. I've used tofu as a substitute for the same meal, and it comes out well bc tofu absorbs flavors well.

Do yourself a favor and get the cubed tofu, it will be so much easier than cutting that hunk of tofu up!

I suggest reading the ingredient list. I tried to look it up and it's not on the GM website. I'm thinking there are probably meat elements in the sauce.
