I don't see what being a vegatarian or not being a vegetarian would have to do with liking or not liking tomatoes. Some people just don't like the taste or the texture or both. My boyfriend is not a vegetarian and he hates tomatoes. I am not a vegetarian and I hate lamb. What difference should it make?
And, correct me if I'm wrong, but vegetarians eat vegetables AS WELL AS fruits and beans and other alternative, albeit incomplete, sources of protein, correct? While I appreciate people pointing out that a tomato is a fruit, not a vegetable, are they making a case that vegetarians DON'T eat fruit??? I'm confused...

I think it's because people tend to say 'what do you eat?' when you say that you're veggie. Because so many foods have tomato in them people think that if you don't like tomatoes you are narrowing your options even more and that this cannot be possible. My brother is also veggie and doesn't like tomatoes, but you get used to silly questions when you're a vegetarian generally.

I'm not a big fan of tomatoes earthier but I'm still a veggie. I don't remember anyone ever saying you had to like all vegetables to qualify as a vegetarian.

it just depend on what you like. i am a veggie too and i cant stand avacados, onions or broccoli but i'm ok with eating tomatoes. He just has to incorporate foods to make up for the nutrients that tomatoes have.

I know a veggie who doesn't really like any fruit or vegetable much. They just live on chips and frozen veggie meals. Yuck!
My boyfriend doesn't like tomatoes either and he eats anything.

I was sitting next to one of the little kids in my extended family when we were all eating at a downtown Philly sub shop. He had ordered his tuna sub plain and I had ordered mine with everything on it. I asked him if he wanted some of my tomatoes and onions. He said to me "No I am a vegetarian. I don't eat any vegetables."
So I guess anyone can call themselves what they want and make up their own rules.

People like to feel superior. When they meet someone like your brother who is doing himself and our planet a lot of good, people feel threatened. Your brother is doing something they cannot do. They have to, for example, have their hamburger and cheeseburger fixes. Your brother doesn't have to have animals killed so he can fuel his body. Your brother is doing great things. People now need to find the chink in his armor. They find out he doesn't like tomatoes...aha! They say, "He must be weird to not like tomatoes and be a vegetarian!" They try to put your brother down.
People like this are not friends. They have such a low opinion of THEMSELVES that they must find others to make into a spectacle. People who criticise someone as good as your brother have no character. Avoid them and find nice people who will love you and your brother for who YOU are.
Good luck to both of you! Keep up the great work in having diets that help save animals and our planet!
