It's a disorder occurring as a common pulmonary complication in pediatric AIDS patients. It can resolve without treatment or progress to respiratory failure and death. Although IP is responsive to steroids, and oral corticosteroids, response is unpredictable.

Inflammmatory reaction involving alveolar walls rather than filling the alveoli with pus. This is mostly viral in origin.
