A pancake like Bisquick normally doesn't have milk. Other pre-made pancake mixes may have milk. Look on the label for anything saying "milk solids" or "whey" or "non-fat milk solids", etc....anything that would indicate milk is in the mix. But why not make your OWN pancake mix? You could do it like this:
2 cups flour
1/4 cup baking powder
1/8 teaspoon sea salt....omit salt if you wish
Mix all of these dry ingredients into a large bowl until everything is well-dispersed. For enough pancake batter for 2 folks for breakfast...do the following from your mix above:
Take 1 cup of the mix above. Add enough soy milk to mix for a semi-liquid batter...about 1/3 to 1/2 cup. Add more if you like your pancakes thinner.
In non-stick frying pan...use a seasoned iron pan if you like(!) melt
1 large Tablespoon vegan shortening or heat 1 Tablespoon peanut oil. When shortening or oil is hot, add batter, 1/8 cup at a time to pan. Don't crowd pancakes. When pancakes start to bubble around the edges, flip them over with a spatula or turner. Serve these pancakes hot with vegan margarine and your fave syrup! Yummy! I make ours with 1/2 oat flour and 1/2 whole wheat flour!

The best way to determine whether or not packaged pancake mix contains powdered milk is to closely read the list of ingredients on the package. Yes, most do, but the wording and terms used to list the same basic ingredient may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Many brand name's have either toll free phone #'s and often have internet customer service sites that you may contact you have questions on their products.

Most do. However, it may be possible to get one that doesn't.
There are two ways to tell.
1. Read the ingredients. In the USA, if it has milk it will say 'milk' or 'whey' or 'lactose (a milk sugar)' in them.
2. If the word pareve or parve occurs on the package, it meets kosher requirement for no milk products.

i don't think so.....never even thought of that. just look at the ingrediants of whatever box brand you buy and see if it says " may contain dairy product" or in the list of ingrediants milk. most of them you can just add water, but others you sometimes have to add eggs and water or eggs and milk.
