Edible onion is a couple of things, but not a root or a flower:
* It's a bulb -- that's the white part you dice into rings.
* It's also foliage -- those are the grass-like onion greens above soil, that you chop up like chives. They actually taste really good. I grow an onion in a little pot beside my sink window so I can cut fresh ones for my food.

Ohh... this one is tricky!
It is neither the root or the flower...
and onion is a STEM.
It makes sense.... think of an onion... it has roots coming out the bottom (so clearly the part u eat is not the root)... if you let the onion grow you will see green stuff growing out the top (the onion you eat is the "Inbetween" part :)
good question

The onion plant has both a flower and a root, but the round vegetable we call "onion" is the root of that plant. Green onions, shallots, etc., are another matter. I don't think they are roots, but they aren't flowers either.

neither, it's a bulb. Roots frow from under it, and flowers grow from the top of it.
