for the most part people who consider themselves vegetarian don't eat meat, this includes fish and chicken. I know of some people who consider themselves vegetarian who will eat creatures of the sea, some things you really just have to decide for yourself. Of course vegans don't eat any animal products, so meat, milk, eggs, cheese, etc. are out of the picture. There are some Gray areas with certain substances within foods that some vegetarians will eat and some will not. Things like gelatin(found in marshmellows, a lot of chewy candies, some yogurt) are derived from the boiled remnants of hooves and bones. Ultimately, how far you go with vegetarianism is up to you. If you're looking for more info you can always try some sites like goveg.com and peta.com, which have info for both vegetarians and vegans. You can order a free 'Vegetarian Starter Kit" from PETA which can be really helpful if you want to learn more about food issues. Good luck!

Each vegetarian sets his own guidelines. However the one thing you absolutely can not have is meat. Some don't think you should have eggs or milk either but that's a personal choice.
Good LUCK!

You can't eat meat. And, if you want to be a real vegetarian, then don't eat poultry or fish either, which are both technically meat.

Most baked beans are cooked with pork and include a piece in the can. Depending on what kind of vegetarian you are, you could eat them and simply remove the piece of pork, or, Bush's has "vegetarian" baked beans which are obviously cooked without the meat seasoning. They are very good, and of course beans are an excellent and needed source of protein in a vegetarian diet.

RE:
what can't vegetarians eat?
I'm thinking of turning vegetarian and I want to know what you can't eat cause I ask my friends and they're not sure they confuse it with being vegan.

Vegetarianism is the practice of not consuming meat, with or without the use of other animal derivatives, such as dairy products or eggs. Some people choose to refrain from wearing clothing derived from animals, such as leather and fur. Veganism, in particular, excludes all animal products from diet and attire, whether or not this involves the actual death of an animal (dairy, eggs, honey, down feathers and silk). Vegetarians are found in countries across the world with varied motivations including religious, ethical, environmental, and health concerns.
