You will receiver 10 pts lol. I was reading some questions and answers and there was alot of mention of AIDS...they acted as if it were the easiest thing in the world to contract. So...what is the actual % of contracting AIDS if you were to be directly touched by blood from someone with AIDS into an open wound on your body???

There must be blood to blood contact with an HIV infected person. AIDS is not an easy virus to contract, despite popular misconception. AIDS is a very fragile virus. I've researched alot about AIDS, and I've read it takes (usually, but not always) repeated exposure to the virus. (Such as TB). The AIDS virus only lives about a second or less when it's outside of the body.

You would immediately be given the anti-aids "power" meds - about $500./Can. Be tested for the rest of your life. The possibilities of contracting the HIV virus this way is minimal, the contracting the Hep B virus, which just as deadly, is very high. I know, for I know someone who was attacked at a bus stop, by intravenous drug user - who stabbed him - all the steps were taken, as he was a city employee, everything was covered, he has Hep - can't work, and knows approximately when he will die. It not too far away. Now give me my 10 points! LOL... hope I helped you understand a little better....

Most women are not going to touch blood--so its probably 0 for women.

The majority of new HIV cases in women are the result of sexual behaviors. During heterosexual intercourse, women are usually more exposed to bodily fluids than their male partners. This places women at increased risk for many Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), including HIV. Injection drug use that includes the sharing of needles or other equipment with injection partners also places women at risk for HIV.

If you are a woman who is using or has used injection drugs in the past 10 years, or if you have a sexual partner who has used injection drugs, you may be at high risk for HIV infection. If you have a sexual partner who has been in jail, or who may have had sex with other men at some time, you may also be at high risk for HIV. If you know or believe you have had a sexual partner who has HIV, you may be at very high risk for HIV infection.

the actual answer actually depends on which strain of hiv the infected person has as not all hiv is the same the strains in African country's are more deadly, also it would depend on how much blood was transferred, ie. how big your cut is and how big and bloody theirs is and if the infected person was on anti retro-viral drug which makes infection risk less....
