Please explain this to me in fewer than 100 pages.

By the way, do you realize that molecules are molecules, and it does't really matter whether you get a given set of molecules from one pound of meat or from 100 pounds of vegetables and legumes? (Except, of course, that in the latter case you get a bloated tummy and lots of gas.)

I do avoid them, but mainly because I just don't like the taste. Everyone's taste buds/body react differently - it's just not what's good for me personally.

So if someone were to bash some "molecules" out of your head, you'd be okay with that? They're just molecules afterall....

Most vegetarians avoid beef and pork b/c they come from butchering animals, which vegetarians feel is morally wrong. It's not rocket science. Also, if any meat eaters avoid beef and pork it's normally b/c they want to eat healthier foods.

Joey, you know very little.

Most people, almost everyone who doesn't have a prior heart condition, have no reason to worry about cholesterol at all. The link between the cholesterol you eat and how much is in your blood is not direct. Your body creates four to five times more than you eat, and will compensate by creating more when you eat less. Cholesterol isn't a poison, it is essential to human well being.
The problem is in how your body handles it; you can eat loads more than recommended and have no problems with coronary diseases and vice versa. The amount by which veggies get less heart diseases is only reasonably small, 2 or 3%, and even that can easily be attributed to that veggies are normally healthier in other ways, like not drinking as much, not smoking, not eating junk food and being more health conscious.

As for 'pork contains more oil': well so do avocados, margarines, soy, and in fact many plant based foods. What's more, many of said products contain hydrogenated fats which are very bad for health and your heart, much more so than natural saturated fats. Like cholesterol, your body creates saturated fats from any excess calories, so you can eat none and end up with loads on your body. The only good ways to get rid of said fats is to eat a healthier, not necessarily vegetarian (in fact I'd advise otherwise), diet and exercise more.

Well, I started off doing a low-fat vegan diet as a way to combat type II diabetes (non-insulin dependent). From what I understand diabetics have twice the chance of having heart problems that non-diabetic people do, so cholesterol and other fats are a big concern for us. (Obviously sugars of various types are, too, but you didn't ask about dessert). My diet choice is one of many possibilities for diabetics.

Now that it's been quite some time on this diet and that I have completed much reading and research, I've begun to see meat at the grocery store as dead body parts. An arm here, a leg there... It pretty much grosses me out as much as it would if they were human (or even cat or dog). As you can imagine, this makes it not very appetizing. That combined with whatever hormones, antibiotics and god knows what chemicals they give to cattle and other "food animals" at concentrated animal farming operations makes me want to say, no thanks.

Of course, all this is just me. I don't expect anything I say to change your mind...indeed I'm not trying. You asked :). Good luck.

You are making my head spin. What???????

#1. I don't avoid beef nor pork.

#2. Not sure anyone can write 100 PAGES on a Yahoo Answer.

#3. What do I care about where I get molecules from? Do I need molecules.

You are really over thinking things.

The problem I have is when lots of molecules are clumped together into a living, breathing cow with a brain and a nervous system. I see no reason to torture and kill that collection of molecules for my own benefit, not when there's another option.

Beef and pork are said to be "red" meat that contain a very high amount of cholesterol than "white" meat such as chicken... So if you know the concequences of having a high amount of cholesterol in your body, you might not wanna eat beef and pork... Besides, pork contains a high amount of oil so its like you're inviting heart troubles by eating pork... I'm not a vegetarian but i always try to avoid beef and pork whenever i can...( the weirdest thing is, whenever i eat beef, the face of a cow pops into my head and i kinda hear "Moooo", in the case of pork, the only thing that prevents me from eating pork is the fact that they eat "s**t") I know these are really silly points as they have nothing to do with the piece of "meat" on your dish but i think you also try to comeup with some kinda weird imagination when eating beef and pork if u wanna aviod eating them...

Beef...it's what's for dinner!

Ummm Joey...pork is considered to be the "other" white meat. NOT red meat.

Beef and pork contain a lot of cholesterol, and I want to be as healthy as I can be.

I only avoid pork because of the impurities in it.
