Some suggest cigarettes are more addictive than crack cocaine. Why do people continue to eat poorly even though they know it's unhealthy? It's human nature my friend.

You'd have too much money otherwise.
You feel that having more wrinkles makes you more distinguished.
No need for aftershave or perfume as no one will smell it over the all-pervasive odour of smoke.
You have no sense of taste or smell so you have no need to eat gourmet food.
You get plenty of exercise running outside and braving the elements for quick smoke breaks at work.
Smoking makes you sexy, right?
And what's more you look your best in dimly lit, smoke-filled rooms.
Your constant coughing helps friends and loved ones find you easily in a crowd.
If you get lost in the wilderness you won't have to rub sticks together to start a fire because you'll be sure to have your lighter with you.
You'll never have trouble deciding what items to get duty free.
Blowing smoke-rings makes you a hit at parties.
You can make extra money filling in at rock concerts when their smoke machine breaks down.

The small holes in your clothes hearken back to the
trendy "shotgun wash" days of the eighties.
Asking people for a "light" is a good way to pick up members of the opposite sex and you don't have to worry about your mouth smelling foul because they're smokers too.
You've spent all the money you would have spent on your retirement plan on cigarettes so it's probably just as well your not going to live as long as everyone else.
Lots of film stars smoke in movies so, therefore, by smoking you are naturally increasing your chances of becoming a film star.
Because if you didn't smoke you'd be tempted to go back to picking your nose, which was what you used to do to occupy your hands.

Because breaking the habit is so difficult.
Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as 'my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these 'my body needs something' sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the 'want something' feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we've had one we still have the feeling, and want another!

Its an Addiction, just like crack or heroin or any thing else. Their bodies are physically addicted and cant properly function without Nicotine, If they don't smoke they become sick. Some people with severe emphysema can actually die if they stop. And withdrawing from smoking is said to be the most horrible of all the drugs (worse than cocaine)
Its absolutly possible to give it up though...I did after smoking for years, and im so happy I dont smoke anymore, Its disguisting and smells really bad !

Pure addiction.
I quit, cold turkey. I had to change my circle of friends (peer pressure) to the non-smokers to get away from temptation...second hand smoke smelled so-o-o-o good, so I had to stay away from smoker's havens. No more beer, 'cause it went well with the butts. What do I do with my hands and what can I suckle on?
Basically, a total commitment to stop smoking involves many life style and habit changes. It's an addiction in it's purest form and open to the public eye.

I can give you another reason: a pack of cigarettes in the UK costs over 4 Pounds!!! Why would anyone smoke? Some have already passed the point of controlling their addiction.. that's why!

It is like everything else we do... we all know that certain things are bad for us and yet we still do them. Is there anything you do that is bad for you and you still do it. Smoking is something that is pleasurable for me and besides I am addicted.... it is just terrible, but what will I do? If i can figure it out I would quit....

Well I already have an incurable disease (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) that leaves me in horrible pain, so I figured I might as well be the cause of at least one of my medical problems.
