The magic words, "I don't believe that" change the situation from what is... to what ever it is they DO believe.
There was a time when Christianity DEMANDED truth... and would accept nothing less.
When right wing politics infiltrated and blended with Christianity, Christians became blind to lies.
I have the opportunity to discuss "current events" with about 10 different people a day in my job. These people range from EXTREME conservative and/or religious people to VERY liberal minded folx. The vast majority of them are someplace in between. The extremists on either side REFUSE to BELIEVE there could be any other opinion other than their own. No matter what the facts or evidence say.
Recently, while discussing the "Clinton meltdown" on Fox News, even though I have a list of EVERY time Clinton attacked terrorism, plus the legislation he tried to get passed to help fight the enemy, the religious nuts say that it isn't true. When I show that their oh so spiritual republican party fought against these changes... and criticized Clinton for his efforts.. I even have quotes... they tell me that it isn't true and that liberals and homosexuals are spreading those lies to make their devilish hero, Clinton into some kind of hero.
I'm always stunned when I get a response like that. Even with physical evidence, they say it is a trick of the devil to lead America astray.
When people fell for the falsehood that the republican party represented Christianity and that the democratic party was AGAINST Christianity, then it became almost impossible for them to see truth just for truth's sake.
The real truth is... no political party "represents" God or Christianity. Politics and spirituality doesn't mix... no matter what party you subscribe to. Government isn't in the scope of spirituality because getting close to god on a personal level can't be done in voting blocks.
By convincing "religious" people that the republican party represents them, they make it nearly impossible for them to say that the republican party is or has done wrong. For fear of the democratic party of the devil resuming power, they will continue to vote for evil people who pretend to be one of them.

From what I've seen they just beleave it's true and the other people must have lied... .becose it's fox news and fox news is always right and is the most un-bias news staion in the world.
