Charles Darwin theorised on the link between tickling and social relations, arguing that tickling provokes laughter through the anticipation of pleasure. If a stranger tickles a child without any preliminaries, catching the child by surprise, the likely result will be not laughter but withdrawal and displeasure. Darwin also noticed that for tickling to be effective, you must not know the precise point of stimulation in advance, and reasoned that this is why you cannot effectively tickle yourself.

Another odd phenomenon with tickling is that, when a person touches the previously mentioned bodyparts on their own bodies, most people measure no tickling sensation. This is because when someone else is tickling you, your brain doesnt know what the movement will be, but when you tickle yourself it is like sending an e - mail to yourself.
When you tickle yourself, you are sending messages to your brain that signal a series of responses throughout your body: tensing the muscles that are going to be affected to prevent the effect. - David Tabeta, Rydalmere.
When you try to tickle yourself, your brain knows that you told yourself to do it.
When someone else tickles you, however, your brain is taken by surprise and can't shut off the skin's message.

the scientific reason behind this is that all animals on earth have a 'Potential', which exist due to the ions present in the body. when a person tries to tickle himself the potential difference is zero whereas when someone else tries tickling them due to the variation in potential or in other words the potential difference the person experiences the tickle. The potential i am talking is due to ions present in the body...............

because you anticipate that you will get tickle...and in the end, your brain cells will not send any message to smile, laugh when you tickle yourself. ask your friend to tickle you and see what happens.
