It really depends on how high of a temperature the child has.
If it is 102 or higher, I would suggest calling a doctor because that is getting into the danger zone. Too high of a temperature can be fatal. I think it starts to become fatal at 103. I know just a few minutes at 105 or higher can kill.
If it is 101 or lower, I'd put a cool cloth on the child's forehead to start or a bag of ice. Make sure you don't make the child too cold or else his or her body might start to shiver to produce more heat. Another option is a cool bath, not a cold bath, but a cool one. That will also make the child feel less hot as some of the heat gets removed from their body. While neither of those things might break the fever, it will make him or her feel better.
Go to the drug store and look for children's medicine, some of them are especially for fever. Follow the directions on the label and give it to the child regularly. If it doesn't break in a few days also call a doctor because a persistant low-grade fever could be the sign of a serious problem especially when combined with other symptoms.

So long as they are over 3 months old, temperature is below 38.9C and they still have normal skin colour, alert, smiling & eating and drinking well then there is no need to do anything. A simple cold or infection can cause a mild fever/temperature.
Sometimes children with a fever breathe faster than usual and if this is the case a doctor should be called.
If your child is under 3 months call a doctor, if your child is over 3 months and has a temperature of over 40C then call a doctor
SEEK EMERGENCY CARE FOR THE FOLLOWING:-
inconsolable crying for several hours
extreme irritability
lethargy and difficulty waking
rash or purple spots that look like bruises on the skin (that were not there before the child got sick)
blue lips, tongue, and nails
infant's soft spot on the head seems to be bulging outward
stiff neck
severe headache
limpness and refusal to move
difficulty breathing that doesn't get better when the nose is cleared
leaning forward and drooling
seizure

it can be really frightening if baby has a temperature. First of all they always seem a bit off. Feel there body for hear. Not just the forehead. A temperature affects the heat of all the body so feel tummy and back. Use your thermomoter ( any higher than 38 degrees straight to hospital or doctor). Use warm water to sponge down the whole body with a sponge. Give calpol every four hours. If symptoms persist make a doctors appointment to be on the safe side. x

Do NOT be afraid of a temperature. This is the body's way to fight off the bacteria. Monitor the fever and ensure it doesn't get to high. If you start pushing above 102 provide the child with some Tylenol as a fever reducer. If the fever continues for more than a couple of days, see you family doctor. There is no harm in providing Tylenol early on as a way to make the child more comfortable. Ensure you significantly increase the amount of clear fluid intake. Sodas do meet meet this requirement. Good luck.

First of all you get lukewarm water(not cold water)and sponge or towel the child down meaning you dip a towel or sponge into luke warm water and rub it on his or her body from head to toe. This lowers the temperature temporarily then a bit paracetamol will help too. Finally make sure you take the child to the E.R or doctor so he the cause of the high temperature can be known and treated as soon as possible

Take him or her to the emergency room or doctor NOW without hesitation. There is something casing the problem and if untreated a high fever can cause brain damage in children. The only home remidy would be to get the body cooled down by placing the child in a cold or cool bath of water and giving childrens aspirin if they arent allergic to it. But I wouldn't mess around when a child is concerned. Regardless of expense I would get medical help from a professional. You can worry about the expense later but if the kid dies from some under lying case you can't replace THAT child.

You should always have a mild over the counter medicine in your cupboard to treat immediately as a high temperature in children can become very dangerous. If you are unable to bring the temperature down contact your doctor straight away.

Make sure you keep body temperature down by undressing kid to underwear / nappy and give them calpol (over 3 months old) if baby is younger go straight to hospital / doctors.......
Calpol usually works but if after a few hours no change call the doctor!

Children's Motrin if they're old enough. If the temp is especially high, be sure to keep a very cold compress on the back of their neck (very important to keep the brain stem cool) and maybe even give them a cold bath. If the fever persists, take your child to the doctor. Good luck!

If your child has a temperature you can start by giving her motrin. In 2 hours if the fever hasn't gone down you can give her tylonol. If the fever lasts for very long or if she has any other symptoms you might want to take her to a doctor.
