If the dog(s) are gone, you just need to clean and vacuum, use a carpet shampooer, then when the carpet is dry, vacuum again. That should take care of it. (Many stores sell carpet power just for such problems, sprinkle it on, wait a while, then vacuum.)
If you still have an oder afterwards you might want to wash the towels, sheets, etc also.

When I moved into my current house, it took about 2 or 3 weeks for the smell of the previous owners' dog to completely disappear.

There is a product called X O by Don Anslett for the doggy smell. It so safe you can even put it on your little stinker as well. The cheapest seller of it is QVC they sell a full size bottle and a larger bottle of concentrate for about 20.00 then add s&h. Good deal, good product, costs much more at the vets office! Good luck!

if you're talking about urine odor. you can clean all the areas with vinegar and it will neutralize the urine smell! Shampoo carpets and wash the walls if it's just a smell dog odor! Spray Lysol in every room after cleaning
