When you say sugar are you talking about the white stuff in a bowl that you sprinkle on your cereal? If you are I think you really need to consider the amount of glucose a food contains. A simple carb versus a complex carb. For instance a potato is almost as high in glucose as sucrose (sugar). White flour is higher in glucose than 100% whole wheat because the fiber in the whole wheat slows the absorbtion of glucose. You can get a glycemic index chart and make food choices from food 50 and below. You will lose weight because there will be no need for the release of insulin to lower your blood sugar. Insulin signals the body to store fat instead of burn it as a fuel source. But you will get results with any program that reduces your caloric intake.

well i reduce the flour and the sugar from my diet and i lost a lot weight.

no sugar is extremely bad for you.... you need sugar to fuel your metabolism which is what helps you lose weight.... among sugars other purposes in the body
