I have heard of this before. Sometimes these "demons" have been known to follow people around for many years, even if they move into a new house. It is hard to say what their reason for showing up (at any given time of day) is since they can show up to scare you into making a big choice in life, at other times it is simply the "demons" having a bit of sick fun.
There could be an answer to their origins in your life if you look back on what was going on in your life at the time and see where you might have picked these critters up, perhaps there was a bully who kicked your Ahole or maybe a drunk for a father, but it is always something that made you feel like it was all your fault and that you deserved it.
One thing is for sure though (again, from what I have heard) if you don't rid yourself of these demonic creatures before your on your death bed, it will be these very demons that drag you to the depth of Lucifer's den.

Considering how badly it has effected you - I'd say it might just have been them.
They do not always look like that, but the fact you were almost petrified with fear is a good indicator that they were not good spirits in any way.
I have seen both good (angels) and bad (demons) and sometimes it is only the chill in your heart to tell you which is which and I would never tell someone that they do not exist.

Sounds very very resembling the common fears and desires of somewhat baby and the similar old nook of the interest seen phantasm. i imagine the theory of pink eyes on a demon is so primary and common (only look on the halloween props in a haunted abode) that persons will have a tendency to imagine seeing them on any shadow that they imagine is a demon for inspite of reason. there is no longer a rational reason to imagine that shadow anybody is something except fantasy.

In some places in the world, including remote places in taiwan (i know this because i live in taiwan) there area few people who believe in bizarre spirit relgions. (keep in mind that this is very rare and is dying out, and usually happens in extremely rural areas, untouched by the modern world) These religions say it is good to let spirits into your body, so they let themselves become possessed. I know people who have seen this with their own eyes. It is apparantly a disturbing and freakish sight. One of these people who saw it refuses to watch any movie containing demonic images because of it. Isn't that creepy?

were you christian at the time? you might have simply misintepereted what you saw, and attached evil connotations to it.
many people are of the opinion that faries and such little things frequently play with infants, since the infants can still see them... they attribute that to the cause of infants laying their in their crib by themself, waving their hands at things and giggling and such without any regular external stimulation.
I have not seen anything exactly like that, but I've had perceptive awareness of things more like Gargoyles, and minor creatures of that sort.

This is called "night terrors". It's pretty common, though the delusion that you actually saw something is less common. I had the night terrors maybe three or four times myself, but of course I don't pretend that they were caused by anything real.

Well, if you don't then I don't. I won't say you didn't see them, because even if it were a hallucination, you still saw something, no one else did, but you did.
Just because it isn't visual to anyone else doesn't mean it isn't there. Just keep a fly swatter around incase those varmits come back!
