Your metabolism is directly related to both of the things you listed. Saying you dont believe in a metabolism is like saying you dont believe in your ribs. Speed up your metabolism by doing anything that makes you breathe hard (to simplify), and doing it a lot of times, numerous times a day. Jumprope, swim, sex, run, jumping jax, lifting weights, anything. Also by not eating grease and fat.

Catabolism + Anabolism = Metabolism. It just means the breaking down and building up of cells and compounds in your body. It's not subject to dispute.

well its mainly to do with your activity but age does play a part in it too. also things like eating slower and chewing your food more will give you a higher metabolism rate and makes it easier to keep your weight down.

Thyroid trouble can cause Metabolic problems.
HYPERTHYROIDISM speeds up your metabolism.
HYPOTHYROIDISM slows down the metabolism.

Everyone's metabolism is different. So many things can influence it such as- caffine, eating regular meals, exercise, age, sex. One thing for sure is that they do exist.
