I suspect the reason is for insulation - curly hair traps air and creates a 'duvet' effect around the genital area. It is the same reason humans have any hair left there at all - it's evolved away from everywhere else but there & our heads (also for insulation!)

This is a peculiar question to ask, but the answer lies in the way the follicles lie. I only ever see curly pubic hair in singles ~ lying where I don't want to see them!
Is it a case of asking the question because you want yours to be straight as that always seems the case ~ curly hair people want straight and vice versa, small boobs women want big & vice versa, blonds want to be brunette & vice versa etc etc Hence great sales in hair products and plastic surgery

Lice have a hard time living on curly hair. Straight hair has a round cross-section like a tree. Curly hair is flat. Lice hold on with a hook and they have a hard time getting a good grip on curly hair. The way people bump against each other would be a fine way to spread lice around.
