OK, all these questions on demon possession made me think of something. This is my logical thought progression here...

I'm not a Christian; in fact, I practice magic. So I should be possessed by demons, yes? Yet I've never experienced the foaming at the mouth, speaking in other languages, superhuman strength, or any such thing--not even when I'm in a church, around Christians, around people praying, etc. My family is Christian, many of my friends are Christian, I read the Bible, I listen to a pretty good deal of Christian music (even praise & worship stuff--I must admit I love Rich Mullins).

So is it just certain demons that cause it? The presence of things that would bother a demon don't seem to set it off with me.

Just looking to make sense of a belief I'm unfamiliar with, because it doesn't seem to make sense to me...

Additonal stuff: I'm working on a master's in folklore & mythology; really, all I do is study religions (my thesis work is on relating aspects of Eastern and Western religions). This one just got me because, though I've heard of it, I don't know much about it, and am having a bit of trouble following the logic.

Why would demons want to manifest themselves in you? You are harmless to Satan's kingdom as is.
You are not leading people to Christ, you are just passing time until you die, and go to hell. Satan wants people not to acknowledge Jesus, and you are playing into his hand.

(I hope i did not offend you, I am playing devil's advocate, and reasoning from satans poiont of view)

If you have read the Bible, then you have probably seen that God does not approve magic. See, for example, Revelation 22:14-15: "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie".

Don't minsunderstand this text: though God does not approve what you do, He loves you more than anything else.

I don't need to be demon possesed in order to do what the devil wants me to do, do I? What does the devil like men to do? Well, the things listed above are fine for him already. Practicing magic is actually playing with the devil. I've never been before anyone posessed by demons, but I have known people who have. Many people who have exorcised a demon-possesed person, agree that many of those people who were possesed, used to see terror movies, diabolic music, and practice magic, among other things.

Right now, you seem to be able to deal with both: christianity and spritualism. But sooner or later you'll get to a point where you will have to decide where to go. Remember you're between two persons. They both want you be by their side, but in a different way. God will never force you to do anything against your will. He'll try to gain your love and confidence by loving and taking care of you. On the other hand, Satan is going to try to drag you to him by deception. He'll show you many philosophies that apparently seem to be attractive and beautiful, but at the end they won't do any good for you.

Okay, here is my thoughts on this from my point of view.

While I do believe that witchcraft is a false religion, and while I also believe that all power done through magic is actually through demonic power, that does not mean I believe that every person that practices such things are demon possessed. Nor do I believe that all who would be demon possessed would act in such a manner.

I believe that demon possession does occur. However, I don't think someone has to be possessed in order for demonic forces to be working in their lives. I don't know if that makes sense. Satan is refered to as the father of all lies. He does not want people to become Christians. True demonic possession usually brings people closer to God. When people see things like you describe they actually think of demonic possession, and go running to a church (at least in countries where Christianity is prevelant). However, if Satan can use his powers in less dramatic ways to convince people of a lie, that is far more advantageous to him. I believe Satan does just that in witchcraft. He allows spellcasters to believe that they have power in themselves or are harnessing power from the natural world around them. The power comes from him and his demonic forces. These "powers" can be seemingly good things such as healing, but when he heals the body to take the soul it is just as evil as any "black" magic.

I hope this helped answer your question. I also hope this gave you something to think about.

Peace and blessings unto you through Christ.

the fact that you practice magik is not what causes these problems.
magik is neither good or bad it is the person.
the fact that you are leading a good lifwe and have morals is part of the reason not for possession.
the other is that they cannot just posses you you have to allow them in. they cannot just enhabit you.
the most part is choice, you walk down an almost christian road which will turn a demon sour.
if you have christian friends and family around all the time and they have a strong faith, that faith will not allow a demon near.
just tred the path of light and you will be ok.
as far as the christians believe since you are not one then your soul is in trouble.

Demons, spirtits or ghosts only have power when you give it to them. What you do, I presume, makes you happy and just because the songs, chants or whatever you're doing with Magic doesn't match your families ideas, doesn't mean that anybody is wrong or right, you're just diffenet...and not possessed by a demon.

Have you gotten alot of results with the practicing magic thing? ...Most people belong to the devil. Satan just makes suggestions and we choose to follow them or not to. He has no authority over a child of God. Only that which the child of God allows Satan to control. One who studies all of the religions of the world may possibly spend their whole life doing so only to find themselves so 'learned' and highly educated that God himself couldn't explain the truth to them.

you don't sound possessed. You however have been tempted to do magic by the devil and you said "yes". What church do you attend? It's interesting you read the Bible but are not Christian. Many blessings!!!
