Because this is a sign for us, when maple and poplar leaves turn upside down, it means rain is on the way.loool, but these trees can sense this when the sun is not directly shining (behind clouds) and the humidity in weather has increased.

As I understand it, the trees that turn their leaves over are doing so to better absorb the water through veins located on the underside of the leaves.

In my experience, i have considered trees turn their leaves upward at the same time as they experience rain contained in the air (commonly earlier the rain starts). it would nicely be that some sorts of trees turn their leaves downward yet none that i have ever considered.
