This is the error message that appears when I use Movie Maker to compress .avi files........
"\\Mon\Movies2\Mon Downloads\My Super Ex-Girlfriend.avi could not be imported. The required codec was not downloaded automatically because the Download codecs automatically check box is not selected in the Options dialog box."
The "download codecs automatically" was already checked but I still have the same problem.

Use the GSpot Codec Information Application (http://headbands.com/gspot/) to see what codec you need, and then search for it on and download from http://www.free-codecs.com/. It will work fine for you.

Compress your AVI videos with AVI to MPEG Converter
1. Open an AVI video file, select an AVI compression codec (DivX, xvid, Cinepak, etc) and configure the parameters for output AVI video.
2. Choose the output folder, and save the AVI video to file.

if you goto http://www.free-codecs.com/
and download all the codecs this will make it import since most files are made via programs such as divx, xvid etc..

try mpeg4 maker program.
