the information in the top answer is wrong and very naive,heres a few sites to help you make sure to look at all of them,http://www.ghacks.net/2006/09/04/download-everything-from-microsoft-without-wga-check/, http://www.theserials.com/serial/winxp_serial.html if you need more help message me or email at dudelove4009@yahoo.com,the first link shows how to get updates without genuine windows,and second is serials,if you dont know what your doing im more than happy to help,people who tell u you cant do it are just jealous they actually paid for it@@lol jealousy rears its head get a life my answer helped maybe the person cant afford genuine copy either way i tried to help you just were negative i know which answer id prefer if i asked the question,the fact is it is possible to get updates without genuine windows you said it wasnt and how youd turn on pc to be crashed is crap,ive used non genuine copy for 4 years get all updates no bugs or crashing

Don't bother trying a downloaded illegal version of XP with a cracked illegal code. You won't be able to get any Windows Updates and Microsoft are able to check on illegal copies of XP now via the Windows General Advantage Tool.
Edit To "Helper" - you are no help at all. Firstly, my Genuine XP came with my computer. Secondly, I will always be able to use XP whereas if you have an illegal copy, you'll turn on your computer one day and find an empty, crashed machine. Don't you EVER tell me I'm naive - get a life.

If the computer did not come with an OS, you will have to buy it, not download it. Use a XP install disk.
