(1) You're going to need to strengthen your lungs. Try http://powerlung.com/ and working your core muscles with Pilates.

(2) Have someone with fitness instructor certification work with you on your form. Chances are you're not striding far enough and you're tensing up your arms and shoulders too much, or have other body mechanical problems that need correcting for proper form.

(3) See a PA about what you can do to treat anemia. Get a referral to a nutritionist on the post hospital and see what advice they can give you.

Good luck.

I'm also at Fort Bliss and the only thing you can do to improve your run is run. It will take about three months to get used to the elevation and until then, your lungs will hurt. But you must either get through it or fail your APFT.
Good Luck

if you got to Bliss within the last six months, you should be able to defer the PRT for reasons of acclimation. it does usually take a while to get used to the thinner air at high altitudes.

Are you on meds for anemia? If not you may want to consider them. My sister found they help improve her stamina.
